DON'T buy unless the recipient already knows how to make lace!
This is NOT for complete beginners. You have to know EXACTLY what to do before you start. The instructions are not clear - even for a native English speaker. It has taken me MONTHS to even work out how to wind and spangle the bobbins. I haven't even got to how to prick the pattern. In another 20 years I might have managed how to make a stitch! Even unwinding the cotton to measure it resulted in a tangled mess which took days to unravel. If your fingers are more then 1cm wide then don't even think that you can tie the required knots. I've eventually managed to get to the stage of making lace. Despite following the instructions to the letter, all I have ended up with is a tangled knot which bears no resemblance to lace. I've wanted to make lace for years, but all this has resulted in is stress and tears. I've never been so disappointed. Do NOT buy this unless you already know how to make lace. It's a total waste of money for someone who does not know how to make lace already.

Good as a taste test, but shortchanges you on the contents
Overall, this product is pretty good if you don't know if bobbin lace is your thing or not. It gives you enough tools and whatnot to give you a taste of what bobbin lacemaking is like, and if you end up hating it, it doesn't break the bank for a hobby you'll never pursue. However, if you find yourself liking bobbin lace, you'll immediately want to upgrade your equipment. The kit itself doesn't give you enough materials to finish the projects it gives you (there wasn't enough wire to cut to the directed length to spangle the bobbins; there weren't enough spangles that matched to make bobbin pairs; the lengths of thread it asks you to cut aren't long enough to finish the patterns) The spangles (and the bobbins for that matter) don't match the picture on the box, or the diagram in the booklet. The instructions are difficult to parse and could do with diagrams or pictures, especially re: where and how to place the pillow, and finishing up the lace pieces. I had to turn to YouTube to find out how to actually do it. If you use 3x the thread they advise you do, you can actually finish the projects pretty well though. The patterns give you a good chance to develop skills one at a time, once you can make sense of the instructions. Conclusion: worth it if you want some kind of kit without spending a lot of money to experiment with a hobby you might not like, but if you have any indication that you want to do bobbin lace, spend the money on better equipment.

Be prepared to spend hours setting up....
Pretty poor, in my opinion. As a beginner lace-maker, I wanted to crack on and actually make the lace when I got the kit. I actual fact, I ended up spending the vast majority of the evening setting the kit up before I could even touch the thread. When you open the box you are presented with everything the box contains - polystyrene roll, fabric, bobbins, wire, pva glue, beads, threads, patterns, instructions etc. Put aside any thougt of actually creating any lace for now - the first thing you have to do is actually make your work station - the box forms part of it, but you have to wrap the polystyrene roll in fabric, glue it all together, then spend heaven-knows how many hours spangling your (horrible plastic) bobbins. I've actually only spangled five pairs (six pairs are all you need for the first pattern). Now I am actually making stuff, I'm really enjoying it, but I can't see myself using this kit for much longer - I've ordered a proper lace-making pillow from ebay and I have my eyes open for nicer, real wood bobbins. If you want to try lacemaking, then this is a good introduction - just be prepared to spend hours in advance before you can actually make anything!

It’ll get you started
So this kit has had some very mixed reviews… Mine arrived with incomplete instructions but an email to the makers got a reply with a complete pdf of the instructions the very next morning. Do not open the box expecting to get making straight off. You have to set up your “work station” first. I didn’t bother with the glue, I just pinned the cloth to the polystyrene “pillow” and it works fine like that. Then you need to “spangle” your bobbins. Will that take ages? If you haven’t done any jewellery making or beadwork before, maybe. If you have, not really. I don’t think crafters will find it too much of a chore. Can you manage without the spangles? Probably but the bobbins are easier to manage and control with the spangles because they are very lightweight and likely to jump around without. Are the bobbins amazing quality? Well, no. You will need to use your thumbnail to break off some little extra bits from the moulding. They are lightweight plastic. Having researched the cost of lace pillows and bobbins, you were certainly not going to get 24 beautifully turned wooden bobbins and a top notch pillow for this kind of money, so I’m not sure what people were expecting. If you take to lacemaking, then I suspect you will very quickly want to start buying the nice stuff. Will this kit get you started? Absolutely it will. On the other hand you could look up YouTube tutorials re lacemaking for beginners without equipment and get yourself started with a scatter cushion, some cardboard and some clothes pegs. The kit comes with the patterns, or prickings, to make a flower, a decorative band and a bookmark, so there’s plenty to do to get you familiar with the techniques and find out if you’re going to want to pursue lacemaking as a hobby The instructions are reasonably clear, but you do need to take time to read them carefully and give it some thought. It definitely helped that I had watched a couple of YouTubes for beginners before I started, but then it would, wouldn’t it! Some people have criticised the quality of the thread. It’s Anchor thread. For me, it’s fine. However you do need to take care winding thread off the skein to avoid tangles. This is true of any type of thread or yarn in a skein. Overall I’d say the kit isn’t bad, if you have realistic expectations. Is it expensive for what you get? Well, maybe. If you don’t want to spend money trying out a new hobby, go the YouTube route. If you do buy the kit, be aware that it won’t set you up with all you need for a lifetime of lacemaking, but it will give you a taste of it, get you started and give you chance to decide if you want to invest in some quality equipment.

Soldi buttati via!

I have paid over Rs.5000 for 1. a piece of thermocol 2. plastic sticks 3. Beads worth RS. 10 4. Instruction sheet at least 10 years old 5. Lacemaker pins worth another RS. 2 6. Pricking paper worth RS. 2 7. God knows what the piece of cloth is for. 8. The threads are of worst quality. 9. And finally I have no idea where the greeting card is. I am highly impressed by the quality of the product and the creativity with which you scam your customers. This is an eye opener that I should not buy anything from you. Thank you so much. And I want my refund in full. Please come and collect your AMAZING PRODUCT
