High quality audio interface. I love this thing!
This is a feature-rich audio interface. I was having a problem with a scarlet solo having a peculiar sound artifact in guitar playing, but this audio interface doesn't have that problem. That was a big bonus for me. Also the z-tone knob is a very awesome addition, but everyone should be aware that this does not function with active pickups. I've also noticed a couple of people saying they think this thing isn't durable because it's got a plastic housing as opposed to metal. Unless you're throwing your audio interface across a room, I can't see why you would need a metal housing. The plastic housing makes it lighter and, although I'm not a physicist, I would imagine that plastic does not conduct electricity or magnetics, whereas metal housings do. This alone makes me more confident that this thing will reduce unintended electrical interference. My recommendation would be for anyone's first time audio interface to be this one. If you just feel like you're going to upgrade again later, you better off not starting out with a starter audio interface. Yes there are higher grade ones than this, including one from the same line, but for those of us who are just playing music at home and want something of quality, this is it.

Great value ,good hardware, great software
Works great Most ppl choosing this device will be wanting the free amplitube se and tonex se software. Which are significant upgrade from the free "cs" version and put into upgrade pricing for full versions of you want them later. The Ableton lite code will be on the third party software tab of the axe I/o hardware tab of your user area after you have created an account with IK. I would have taken half a star off for the circles I had to run in to set it all up but not a full star and at 50+ years I'm more impatient than most with the registration window parade. The set up and drivers do require registering product and going to several user pages to get all the free software. After driver install be sure to got to windows hardware audio settings (Not the desktop sound menu) and under properties for axe i/o uncheck the exclusive control boxes Otherwise amplitube will mute all other audio. All this being said I'd give 4.5 stars because it's basically a high quality single input interface with midi and nice guitar preamp that includes an amazing amp and effects sim for guitar (or any input really) and Ableton lite for the value of the software.

Best value USB Audio Interface for guitarists at this time (2025)
For two years I've been using next size up, the AXE I/O Solo which is the same except it has an additional Hi-Z input for a microphone. It sounds very good for electric guitars and basses. It has a passive/active switch, JFET input optimized for electric guitar and a the Z-Tone knob - a variable impedance control that adjusts the way a guitar or bass interacts with its pickups. This allows for a wider range of tones and more control over the sound. The Z-Tone knob adjusts the impedance from 1 MOhm ("sharp") to 2.2 kOhms ("bold") At the maximum impedance, the sound is tighter, sharper, and more precise Increasing the load makes the sound thicker and bolder I bought this Axe I/O One for a friend to use for headphone practice using Tonex. I was surprised that it appears to be the same in every way except the additional mic input. The bundled AmpliTube 5 SE and Tonex SE was the same, the specs appear to be the same. It operated and sounded just like my Axe I/O Solo. So in sum, this unit is the best value audio interface a guitar player could choose at this time.

FRAUDULENT SALE & ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE
I have never experienced such poor customer service, especially at the level that I had with IK Multimedia. When I purchased their audio interface, IKM agreed to provide me with a serial number for Amp 5 MAX. It turned out to be a trial version that would eventually expire although the Q&A section clearly stated that Amp 5 Max was included in the purchase. When it started making noise on numerous amp models and presets, I contacted IKM’s customer support. For over two weeks I attempted to seek a resolution until, finally, IKM told me I would only have access to basic version of Amp 5 although I sent them proof of the serial number that they themselves provided. They refused to resolve my issues at that point, so I immediately reported this incident to Amazon for a refund. I wrote to the management team at IKM regarding this debacle. It took them more than a month to respond with a lame apology. They admitted their mistake and then defended their rep’s erroneous decision, stating it was a typical response when it comes to noise issues. In the same email, they made an even more lame offer of help – an empty gesture at best. I replied by telling them to rectify the situation they put me in. I never heard back. IK Multimedia is a company made up of management and staff who offer NO support and accept NO responsibility whatsoever for their product even when they are at fault. Not once did they offer a resolution regarding this situation. They made a conscious choice to ignore my repeated requests for a resolution to this issue. If you value your time and your money, you can purchase a much better quality audio interface and software for significantly less. You’ve been warned - BUYER BEWARE.

buyer beware
I have used the Axe i/o for two weeks. This is my first time with a interface. So far the Axe i/o has worked great. The extra switches and z tone knob for the input of the guitar, works great, helps you dial in the best tones. The buyer beware part is I had a issue with the download of Amplitube 4, there must be a bad file or something during download. I contacted tech support and got an answer with 24 hours, but the information I received was unusable. I sent another email to tech support and got no response. I had to figure it out myself. The other part of buy beware is, you only get some of the amps, pedals, cabs, and mics. You must BUY the good stuff from the custom shop. So far I am not impressed with sound quality of the amps. I found some free amps online that sound and preform better, but the Axe i/o is working good.

What an awesome product. From build quality to design. Well thought out and extremely functional. Very good sound quality. I was a little concerned because this iteration is passive and uses power via USB port for the 2 x inputs however, no issues there. The IK Miultimedia driver and user interface is also, spot on. My Cubase Artist DAW and this device work nicely together.
