how thick is it when folded for storage?

The top is 2" or less but the feet stick out several inches. It slides perfectly inside my bedroom closet. For the small size, it's sturdy when set up. I took a picture but it doesn't appear I can load it.

Can the iron rest be removed?

No. It's on there for good unless it breaks off or you saw it off.

Does the 44” length include the ironing rest? What is the size of the ironing surface?

I bought this because it says it was 44" long. It's not. When you fold it and factor in legs, etc., it is around 51". I wanted to hang it in my laundry room cupboard, which is 47" high. I may still keep as it seems sturdy, and I am thinking I can hang it in another closet. Frustrating.

has anyone hung this up? How did it go? And what did you use?

Yes, we hung ours with an over the door hanger from Amazon, it also held the Iron as well. Works great!
