Some interesting insights.
I was suddenly asked to help someone learn English, and turned to this book for some information. If you're going to be teaching ESL to kids in a school setting, this will probably help you a lot. In my case, since I was teaching an adult, it was a bit limited in its helpfulness to me. That said, there are some great ideas to use if you've been thrust into a "Teach this guy how to speak English better" kind of role. I will never start a class without a *good* warm-up now.

Great tips and resources!
I enjoyed this book for many reasons. It's very practical, provides lots of ideas for learning activities that can be used right away, and is written in an engaging, comfortable style. Glad I bought it!

mostly a memoir
This is more or less a series of anecdotes of the author's experiences teaching English in Thailand. I was looking for a more technical and theory less stories.

Practical guide to teaching ESL
This is a spot on guide about what do if you want to start teaching. I liked the way the book doesn't preach and gives practical, down-to-earth advice, right down to seating plans and how to start your first lesson. Recommended.

A very useful book
If you are thinking of moving abroad and working as a teacher, this is a great place to start. The writing style is light and easy to follow, so it doesn't matter if you don't know an adjective from an adverb. I liked the fact that it deals with practical stuff, such as how to get a TEFL certificate and understand grammar, but it also has lots of anecdotes about what it's really like inside a classroom, and how you deal with 40 teenage boys on a Monday morning. A lot of books just do one or the other.I've been teaching EFL/ESL for 7 years and I picked up a few new ideas for lessons and material as well from this. Wish I'd had this 7 years ago, it would have made a few lessons go a lot more smoothly!
