I really like this holder. It is two sided. The cutout on one side is a little wider than the other side. One side holds your phone more upright while the other side lets the phone lean back. Both sides hold the phone (mine is in a case) in the horizontal position very well. One side will hold your phone in the vertical position or horizontal position but the other side, having a smaller opening, will only hold my phone horizontally but not vertically apparently because of the protective case on my phone. If you have a very thick case on your phone you would most likely have to remove it to fit in the phone holder. It doesn’t matter to me if the phone is leaning or upright, horizontal or vertical but thankful I can use either side if I need to charge my phone because it will hold horizontally on both sides.

I am really impressed with the workmanship on this simple solid wood display. It's sanded to perfection in preparation for the thin satin varnish coating, which makes the wood grains "pop". Great job!

It would b a good phone holder but the cut out grooves are too narrow for my phone. If I had a case to protect my device I would have to remove it every time I wanted to use it. If only the carver had made it an eighth of an inch wider so the cased device could fit the groove.
