So happy to have a clamshell usb dvd player.
Really happy to see a clamshell usb dvd player. It is a much more stable base for mounting and dismounting the cds and dvds, and will place less stress on the connectors in the long run.I just got this yesterday, so don't have much to say yet except a warning for fellow users: this dvd player likes the high power usb ports. There is a utility you can download from the pioneer website, and on that utility you can run a test to see if the dvd player is getting enough power. That diagnostic should say "OK". If it says "NG", as it did when it was plugged into a lower power usb port, then it does not work very well. So, if you experience glitchy behavior, the first thing to try is to make sure you have sufficient power to the dvd player.Other than that, it looks good.

Nice!
So far, this is the best external DVD/BluRay drive I've found. Works wonderfully!

Rough start, but now I'm sold
I initially plugged this into a USB dock that I was having issues with and every burn I attempted, failed. I investigated and found that the VIA driver the dock works with has issues with Windows 10, disconnecting and reconnecting constantly, so I replaced the dock and ever since then, it has burned flawlessly and even reads/writes the disks that had failed so I can reuse them. I like that the disk insert is completely lo-tech mechanical (there are no mechanisms that can fail when you put a disk in or take one out.). You can also visually inspect the inside of the drive before inserting a disk. A must have for parents of children who like sliding things into where they don't belong. Speed is average, but burns are accurate. It's portable so I can use it with a number of my devices. I replaced an old LG internal drive that stopped recognizing Blu-ray disks and now I have a Blu-ray burner that can go anywhere. Very happy. Just wish this went on sale more often.

Works great
I should have got this a long time ago. I use it to watch DVD's and blue rays. You can also use MKV to back up DVD's and Blu-rays pretty quickly.

Very Capable Blu-ray Drive
I bought this external Blu-ray drive to replace an external drive that wouldn't work on my M1 Macbook Pro, and what I like about this drive is it's top loading vice slot loading, portable size, cables included, works great with MakeMKV, good value for the price, works with MacOS Monterey to Sonoma, easy to install and use. It's been working great so far, and the only feature I wish it had was the ability to rip 4K discs - which it doesn't do. Would I buy it again? Definitely! So far, it's earned 5 Stars.

Works even better than previous one
I bought this because my former Pioneer drive started to fail and no longer read discs consistently. I was wondering if it was the discs. But, after purchasing this replacement and testing it on the discs that my other drive didn't read, I realized, it was the reader. This one read all the discs with no problem. I use it to rip Blu rays to my media server. As well as music CDs too. Easy to use and I like that it only takes up ONE USB port. The previous one took up two.

Finding the drivers is a headache
Bought this drive as a backup to my laptop drive. The O.S. was Win 10. After 5 year of use it started to give me problems. So I brought a new laptop. Win11, 64mem. 2tb ssd, Ryzen9 processor.Downloading the driver was a pain. Okay, done it. Laptop only powered the drive on one side of the laptop, a 3.1 usb next to the usb-C. Okay so I now know. These new laptops give you the run around. Unless you're paying top dollar the manufacturer points out all your connections....Don't bother going to Pioneer for support using the web. It's a dog and pony show. Nothing but products for sale. Use the Amazon support. So I got the drive working. But the Cyberlink program...!!! Sucks....it's okay for CDs. Everything else? Forgot about it..!!!...Pioneer use to be so rock solid. The drive is good but this program... spare yourself the aggravation. I don't know how they got in bed with cyberlink. But it's time to get a divorce.
