This is neither a core ruleBOOK nor an adventure BOOK, as the pictures and description would lead most to believe. Rather this is just a thick GM’s shield and basically a pamphlet of a story. I do not recommend you buy this unless you understand exactly what it is. The description is highly highly misleading.

I purchased this once already, had the same issue above. I returned it to get a new copy, somehow is worse. Absolutely don’t buy, calling it “New” is false advertisement. Absolutely no quality control

This is a reprint of the fantasy flight games book, and as such does not contain any extra errata. The game itself is very fun and I enjoy the different mechanics, but the book could be laid out better. The index will be your friend. The dice system is really fun and more engaging than typical d20, but does slow down the game a bit when 7 people need to make the same rolls. Also the fact that you are currently hard pressed to find the custom dice is frustrating. I recommend finding the beta test for the game and printing the dice images on sticker paper and using existing dice until the official ones are back in stock. It does smell a bit musty.

Als ich mit meiner RPG-Runde nach einem neuen System suchte, fiel die Wahl auf das Star Wars-System, ursprünglich entwickelt von Fantasy Flight Games und mittlerweile von Edge Studios vermarktet. Hierzu muss man sagen, dass leider viele der weiteren Produkte aufgrund dieser Übernahme aktuell knapp sind (Vor allem Zusatzbücher und das Jedi-Grundbuch). Das Sytem hat insgesamt 3 Grundregelbücher, man benötigt aber nur eins davon zum Spielen. Im Grunde sind die Inhalte auch weitestgehend gleich, nur der Spielfokus ist anders gesetzt. Das vorliegende "Edge of the Empire" / "Am Rande des Imperiums" fokussiert sich auf die Schmuggler/Kopfgeldjäger-Welt des Star Wars Universums (Charaktere wie Han Solo/Boba Fett). Die anderen Beiden behandeln einmal den Konflikt Rebellen/Imperium und die Jedis. Ein Einwand der gebracht werden muss: Man benötigt zum Spielen ein spezielles Würfel-Set, welches seperat erworben werden muss. Dies muss bedacht werden, ist für mich aber kein Grund das Buch abzuwerten. Lange Zeit waren die Würfel unmöglich zu besorgen, glücklicherweise sind diese nun wieder verfügbar. Man benötigt mindestens ein Set, aber mehrere sind komfortabler. Es gibt Einsteiger-Sets die neben den Würfeln auch ein Start-Abendteuer beinhalten, sehr zu empfehlen. (Vor allem das Edge of the Empire-Abendteuer ist klasse) Zum Buch selbst: Das Artwork im Buch ist wirklich wunderschön und wird jedem Star Wars-Fan gefallen. Der Aufbau ist logisch und leitet sowohl Spielleiter als auch Spieler durch die relevanten Kapitel. Das Spielsystem selbst arbeitet mit Symbolen die sich gegenseitig aufrechnen und am Ende ein Ergebnis aus Erfolg/Misserfolg und Vorteil/Nachteil ergeben. Dies bringt vor allem bei "Skill Checks" eine tolle Möglichkeit der Narrative mit sich. BSP: Man versucht ein Schloss zu knacken und Würfelt Erfolg mit Nachteil. Ergebnis: Das Schloss geht auf, aber man hat einen Alarm ausgeglöst. Fazit: Tolles RPG System und wenn man bereits ist die Würfel dazu zu holen und ggf. auf Nachdrucke von Büchern zu warten, eine schöne Alternative für SCI-FI Interessierte RPG-Spieler.
