Sr 90
After the Great War of 2150, which were Nuclear in nature, had led to the birth of a significant populace of mutants from nuclear fallout, the principle form of the fall out was Strontium-90.Johnny Alpha was born a mutant and during the Twenty Second century, one of the few jobs left is that of bounty hunter, a job considered too dirty for normal humans. The toughest of mutants hunt down criminals throughout the galaxy for the Search/Destroy agency, whose unique SD badges give them the nickname Strontium Dogs. He is a highly single-minded bounty hunter, never giving up in the hunt of his quarry. While he does work for money, he has integrity and on occasion will often takes a job, forego payment or sometimes drop a job entirely. This second edition really brings to fore the character that is Johnny Alpha; the stories contained within are some the best as artists and writers do sterling work on a marvellous persona, with his brand of justice and he does it his way – all very highly recommended.

It's a dog's life (and death). . .
This book, like Volumes 1 and 2 of this series, is another masterpiece.Alan Grant continues the galactic adventures of mutant bounty hunter Johnny Alpha and his Viking partner, Wulf Sternhammer in a collection of brilliant stories. Once again, Grant's stories are original and exciting, and Carlos Ezquerra's trademark artwork is spectacular.Included in this Volume are fantastic stories such as "The Slavers of Drule", "The Incident on Mayger Minor", "The Ragnarok Job" and "Rage".Every story in the book is great, but the stand-out ones have to be "The Ragnarok Job" and "Rage"."The Ragnarok Job" is a time-travelling tale where we are told the origin of Johnny's long-standing partnership with Wulf (and which culminates, in a bitter twist, with the Viking's death at the hands of the evil mutant Max Bubba, who Johnny was contracted to travel back in time to capture)."Rage" is the follow-on, where Johnny hunts down Bubba's gang to carry out a terrible and ruthless revenge. (You can almost feel Johnny's anger and hatred at Wulf's killers!).If the book had a weak point, I would say that it is the final story, "War Zone". It's a good idea, but the story is way too short and could have done with filling out some more.Personally I prefer Volume 2, which includes some of my favourite stories, but this is still superb.I expect that Volume 4 will be the final one, and I can't wait to get my hands (or should I say paws) on it.This is Strontium Dog at its very best. Alpha fans will not be disappointed!

Top Class
This version includes the story 'Rage'.An extremely interesting story going back in the past on the origins of Johnny's long-standing partnership with Wulf. The aftermath of the revenge story is fantastic and you do feel his rage and anger, the visulisations of his eyes clearly shows how much anger he has inside of himOverall if you are a SD fan you have to read this volume

Childhood days revisited
Bought this book on impulse. I was a huge 2000ad fan when I was younger. Max Bubba and Rage are two of the best strontium dog stories ever written. Great artwork, just buy it and enjoy

Improves On Second Reading
It's remarkable the amount of strips Wagner and Grant wrote without their quality diminishing. With this the third agency file of Strontium Dog charting the strip from the mid 1980s the quality is still exceptionally high but perhaps not as high as the previous two volumes. There are perhaps two reasons for this1) The early stories are so good it'd be artistically impossible to surpass the quality2) Some of the stories feel like they're surrogate Judge Dredd stripsOn the second point this is reinforced by having a story called The Slavers Of Drule which could easily be re-titled The Slavers Of The Cursed Earth , just change Johnny Alpha to JD and you'd have the same story . It's not by any means a bad story just a slightly generic one. Likewise I couldn't help noticing a sub-plot directly "borrowed" if that's the diplomatic word from Tolkien and we get Incident On Mayger Minor where the strip's spaghetti Western roots are showing.None of this should really be taken as a criticism because the stories are all very entertaining and any initial disappointment are quickly dispelled on second reading. It's Strontium Dog chaps of course you'll want to re-read it

An absolute dream on a Kindle
Gorgeous artwork by Carlos Ezquerra rendered beautifully for a Kindle. I don't work for Amazon (as I pay taxes), but this is a fine piece of work.
