Sharper Image Soother Sleep Bedtime Light and Sounds, Built-in 10 Soundscapes, Sleep Trainer, Aids Sleeping, Stress and Anxiety Relief

You can find a better sound machine for cheaper. If you want and sound machine, alarm, AND speaker, maybe you want to give this a shot. But be warned, the app is not intuitive or user friendly. In dire need of an update and was frustrating to use, requires having to read a manual (which most well built apps don’t).

Sadly, this device relies on an app to run everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. The app doesn’t work well and basically renders this machine useless.

I really wanted to like this thing, but it's very much a mixed bag.Since I see multiple different versions being reviewed, I'll clairify; I'm reviewing "Sharper Image Sound Soother Intelligent Sleep Trainer & Aide, Bluetooth Speaker with 10 Built-in Soundscapes & Smart Clock, White Noise Machine, Companion App, Dimmable Light, Stress & Anxiety Relief"The good:- Awesome sound quality for something this size- Easy enough to connect to my phone; I had to make two different pairings, but they both had the same name (SI Sleep), so it wasn't confusing- Although setting the clock with pushbuttons was the usual pain-in-the-neck (and I didn't bother to finish), as soon as I connected it to my phone, it automatically update itself- 3 levels of brightness for the clock/info display; touch the circle above it to toggle. Technically 4 levels; off is the 4th one.- Some of the built in sounds (rain, especially) are fairly goodThe bad:- The app... It's just not very useful and very counterintuitive + You don't seem to be able to set the alarm time from the app; just the alarm sound (pick from a list, and no, you can't choose your own audio file) and how long it will take for the light to go from off to whatever max brightness you choose. You can choose what DAYS it goes off, but, as far as I can tell, you can't actually set the alarm time from it + The Sleep timer function is similarly limited; you've got a selection of time periods to choose from (during which the light will drop from whatever max you set down to off), and built-in sounds; again, you can't use any of your own.- Most of the built in sounds would make acceptable background sounds for an office, or a waiting room, but I really can't understand them as something you would want to try to fall asleep to, but that might just be my perception.- The manual; very barebones -- doesn't even indicate what the icons above the clock means. (One is clearly a bluetooth icon, but the second, some kind of square, I still don't understand.)Overall, it's a good speaker, and I'm ignoring most of it's built in functions to have it tied into my phone's alarm and sound functions; it's excellent for that. But otherwise, it's just not that impressive; a better app could make it capable of a lot more.

The buttons are on the bottom of the alarm.So when this goes off, I’m super frustrated and I’ll hit it a few times but it won’t turn off.It works better if you control it from the app. It’s fustrating using this device, outside of the app. The app is very poorly and basic. Hard to navigate until you figure it out. If youre not tech saavy, it’ll take a little bit to grasp. I’m tech-saavy and didn’t quite get it.It auto connects to your phone via Bluetooth. The sounds are controlled from the app, not on the device (annoying). Auto connecting is annoying.The light isn’t as bright for a larger room, but a small room in the basement it lights up a small room really well as a night light. I do like it as a night light in the basement.The alarm is loud. I like the sleeping sounds. But I don’t know how to enable the light as a wake up light. The instructions don’t explain well. The time isn’t bright, so if this isn’t next to you, you can’t really see the time (those without 20/20 vision). The font is small.I wish the buttons weren’t on the bottom of the device and not solely required to control majority of the device through app! Makes you stay on your phone at night when you’re trying to figure it out. Bright enough to read if the room is small enough.App requires improvement.So this product is used as a clock and night light!I like my other sunriser alarm better and it’s brighter.

I was hoping for more from a SI product, but this one disappointed. I thought the sound quality would at least be on par with an Echo or a Nest, but far from it. No depth whatsoever - sounds like it's playing music inside a box.I got BT to work once. Now, even when both the speaker and my phone show they're connected, the app just shows "no device". The speaker chimes like my phone is connecting, and the BT light stays lit like it's connected, but the app still says "no device".Brightness of the light has three brightness modes if you use the buttons on the bottom, the app allowed more control of brightness, but I can't get that to work anymore.So, pretty much to use this light I have to flip it upide down and use the buttons. It will still play music from my phone even though the app won't control it, but the speaker on my phone is 10x better than this speaker, so why bother?There is no battery in this, so to use it it has to be connected to power through the USB-C port. It will, however, remember the time if it gets unplugged or loses power for awhile - but no clock/alarm/light/speaker funtionality if it's not plugged in.The soothing sounds were nice, and actually were soothing. So there's a positive.I won't go so far as to say I hate it, but pretty close. Look for something better.UPDATE 5/10/2023: Seller contacted me and immediately replaced the speaker (even sent it FedEx). The replacement works as it should in regards to connecting to the app. The sound is still not the best, but I have other speakers for music. The soothing sounds, light and clock are really all I got it for anyways.Good for the price, and feel confident in your purchase because the customer service is top-notch!
