Robert Spencer makes clear in this book that politicians have a duty to understand Islam. All 21st century US presidents have tragically failed in this regard.

This book gives a great explanation and clarity on what went wrong during the 20 years in Afghanistan. The lack of understanding Islamic beliefs, misunderstanding the culture, and ignoring moral issues are a few (not all) of the reasons addressed in this book on why Afghanistan was lost. This book goes through the 20 year war and examines what was said by the Presidents during the time as well as what was actually happening in Afghanistan. Very insightful as I would expect from Robert Spencer.

I love all things Robert Spencer. I greatly appreciate the clarity he brings of the current crisis in Afghanistan. It brings into perspective the US policies over Islam and the Middle Eastern countries more broadly.
