Q: How do you use it there are ones that are it a tub

Wet face with shaving brush and warm water. Expose soap by peeling back some wrapper. Rub exposed soap all over wet portion of your face. Wet brush again and work soap on your face to a lather. WARNING: Some users do not like the smell ( me included}. I now use an electric shaver, after a lifetime of wet shaves.

Q: How do you hold these, Palmolive had plastic bottom

They are just wrapped in a waxy paper, so I just remove the paper about 1/2 inch at a time and hold it like that. They are slightly larger than the Palmolive sticks (in length and diameter), so I find it's fine to do it this way. I find them easier to hold than the Palmolive and they give a better lather.
