Great find!
This book I did judge by its cover. I was browsing in my local book store when this book's colorful cover caught my eye. So, for father's day I received a copy of this book and have since had the wonderful opportunity to read it.Mibs and her family all receive a "power" on their 13th birthday. This power is called their Savvy. These powers can range from the all mighty to the subtle. A few days Mibs father is in a serious car accident and is taken to a distant hospital for care. The morning of her 13th birthday she discovers that her Savvy is waking things up. With this new found power she sets out to awake her father at any costs only to find out her power might not be what it seems. The books time period seems to be in the 50's where moms were still Suzie Homemaker moms and church had an edge of snob to it. It is also written in 1st person and some of the words Mibs uses are very creative and fun. This book was quick to get to the plot going and carried well throughout the whole book straight to its almost tearful conclusion. It reminded me a bit of X-Men with the powers but at the same time unique enough to not draw conclusions. Some of the other family members powers are really unique and interesting once thought about. This is a really short book and it's a fun ride while reading it. Later this month the second installment of this book comes out and I anxiously await its arrival. Ingrid Law definitely deserved the award for this book because of its unique characters, time setting, creativity and heartwarming story. If you have a few hours check this book out. Its worth the time.

Savvy
Savvy is a great book about the Beaumont family who gets their savvy. A savvy is a gift that these Beaumont kids get wen they turn thirteen, you could get the savvy of wind or electricity also the savvy of being perfect. But it takes a while to control a savvy. Well when Mississippi or Mibs turns thirteen and gets her savvy she goes on a long trip with Will, and Bobby the preacher's kids. Will is very polite and Bobby well she is the complete opposite of Will and her perents .So you can imagine all the trouble they get into. Well lets just say Mibs savvy involves a stuck up teenager, a big pink bus, and ink?I acutely did not find much of the book unentertaining. It was very enjoyable maybe if the book were a little longer it would have been more pleasant. Something I did not enjoy was the beginning it was to dull I was actually having second thoughts of reading the book in the beginning. Also if the book did not mention her siblings as much because I felt like the mentioned Gypsy a lot. But other than those little things I love the book!I think Ingrid Law is an amazing writer and always includes tons of imagination and adventures to her books witch makes everything so much more exiting and creative. This book is absolutely, incredibly; amazingly, fantastic I recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure, craziness, and a little romance! (Hmmm I bet you could imagine who it could be!) Also if you are anything like me you will also want a savvy!-Ashley N.

THIS STORY YOU WILL NEVER FORGET - HAVE FUN!
Ingrid Law has captured a story that the reader will not forget. I have read it several times (the entire series of three books), and have recommend it to everyone I know. It's magical, humorous, and just plan fun. Her unique way of writing keeps the reader turning the pages late into the night. There will be no "pushing" to get your child to read...they will beat you to the book and you will have to wait until they are tucked into bed to read it yourself. As the story grows from book to book, you will find that you MUST make time to read! So, enjoy and then loan the book to as many as you can! Ingrid Law...I'm waiting for your next continuing story of this interesting family!

Amazing book!
I’ve loved this book since I first read it, so I bought it to read with my little sister. It’s an amazing book about a family in which everyone gets some sort of magical power on their thirteenth birthday. I loved the characters (even though most of them were flat as a pancake) and would 100% recommend, especially for late elementary and early middle school.

find your savvy
i picked this book up by chance and bought it after reading the first 10 pages because i didn't want to put it down. Mibs (short for Mississippi) is a wonderful character who turns 13 in the beginning of the story. it is an important age for anyone but especially for the Beaumonts, who find out at 13 what their "savvy" is. her brother Rocket can create electricity. her brother Fish can make hurricanes. her grandfather can move mountains. now it's her turn.but her father gets into an accident, turning everything upside down and sending them on an adventure that teaches them some hard life lessons.it's a refreshing story about growing up, about being different, about listening to your voice instead of others around you to figure out who you are. i especially love the message that we shouldn't be in such a hurry to grow up.the story moves along quickly and vividly due to Ingrid Law's use of language and illiteration:"like the ticks and tocks of a clock""with a zest and a zing and a zeal""hurly-burly fluster of truth telling"the ending is touching but believable, not syrupy or fantastical, which stories like this are in danger of doing. i sincerely hope she'll continue the story and write a series because this one book wasn't enough!
