Very funny and meaningful too.
I wanted a book that showed the true meaning of Christmas, but that can be difficult when the child's parents are not religious. This book shows the spirit of Christmas at its best . I bought more copies once I'd read it. The family in the book help all those who need a place to stay at Christmas, with hilarious results. The aunties on the dresser shelves are unforgettable! This book is suitable for any child of any religion or none, because the essential story is of kindness to others. It works on many levels, so is suitable for older children that read well as well as the usual age group for picture books.

Best kids Christmas book.
I have bought this for so many kids I know. Was firm favourite with mine when younger. Such an engaging story of the many friends, relatives and other quirky characters who spontaneously turn up at Exeter Street for Christmas, who are accommodated in most funny and unusual ways. Beautifully illustrated. Highly recommend.

Unusual and wonderful tale for Yuletide!
Loved the older time setting and the amazing warmth and generosity of the family to all who turned up to the big old house. Lovely cosy hygge feeling! Lovely book to read with the children, as so many things to spot in the pictures. Love it!

Our Favourite Christmas Story ever
This has to be our most favourite Christmas story ever; our own children have always enjoyed it and now I'm positive our granddaughter will too. It shows the real meaning of Christmas is about giving and caring and brings plenty of smiles along the way with the lovely illustrations.

This story will be your Christmas Eve tradition right up there with The Christmas Story and The Night Before Christmas. Beautiful.

This story gives a practical description of Life and what matters most in a life of real difficulty and generosity. Bear one another's burdens we are exhorted but today Christmas seems to be so egotistical and focused on a Hallmark image that real life and real people are left out of the picture. Christmas on Exeter Street reminds us that Christmas is welcoming others into our lives with love, kindness and generosity that manifests the presence of Jesus in our heart.

My family reads this every year - adults, children, grandchildren. The message is wonderful - be kind, open your heart to everyone. The drawings are charming. I also give this away every year - so I'm always buying new copies... The American version needs to be reissued.
