This 2nd edition is an improved version of the already excellent 1st edition and is quickly going to become established as our main recommended text for our DET programmes. It follows on the success of the authors' books on the AET and CET. It covers improving own performance, critical thinking, roles & responsibilities, learners' individual needs, assessment principles, communication, inclusive learning and managing behaviour, planning, curriculum development, wider professional practice, and ICT. The book is very readable, is up-to-date, and has good links to theory and to the ETF professional standards. This is all backed up with checking of understanding and end of chapter reflections. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to any teacher studying towards their DET qualification, and to colleges and HEIs who are delivering the qualification. I have lead on teacher training at several colleges over the last 20 years and find books like this help me just as much as my students.

So much information in one place! All well laid out with supporting illustrations to make topics clearer. Very happy that I decided to get this book to help me with my studies. I had access to an earlier edition but wanted the Second Edition to make sure that I had the latest information available. Further to the information within the book, the references listed within will guide you as to where else to look to gain a deeper understanding and further examples for your work.Highly recommend this book to help you with your studies.

This book was an invaluable guide to completing the Level 5 in Education and Training. It contains all the information required, along with additional references. What I found particularly useful was the appendices which link the chapters to the questions that need to be answered. I could not have completed the Level 5 in Education and Training without this book

Love this book its a basic guide through the course obviously it doesn't have all the answers but helped me find where I was going to get them and I've passed all my assignments so far using it ☺

A useful place to start. Only just started the Level 5 journey and it seems a great place to start. Although I felt there wasn't much in the theories of education and training but it is such a vast area!

This second edition is written excellently and completely up to date. It is full of information, very clear and full of great and relevant insights.

This is a great introduction to the DET course and what to expect. It won't enable you to pass the course on its own obviously, but gives pointers and ideas to further possible reading to get more detail. Would recommend.

I purchased this after reading good reviews and was disappointed. Although this is a structured book, I was looking for a book that would guide me through the actual qualification and this is aimed at developing teachers, which is a slightly different point of view.there are other better structured 'dip in dip out' books and this was not one recommended by my course.
