Fill a Bucket: A Guide to Daily Happiness for Young Children Review: Very helpful - This was a great teaching tool for a child who lacks social skills. It helped me explain a difficult concept with colorful, playful pictures. I highly recommend. Review: A great beginning of the year read - I start every school year with the Fill a Bucket books. The concept forms a structure for classroom management. Students earn bucket filler slips. These are counted at the end of each week and tallied on a paper bucket (I found these materials on Teachers Pay Teachers). When there are 100 tallies, students earn a pre-determined classroom award. They love it, and parents love reading the slips when students take them home at the end of the week.

GREAT message.
I raised my son on the original version of this book and love the message this series shares. You can't start teaching how important it is to be kind, early enough. I love giving this or any of their other books as gifts for little ones. The message is great, but so are the illustrations!

Wonderful little book
A great concept to teach how kindness and love affects others and ourselves. It is written for children and my grandchildren love it, but it is uplifting to me too every time I read it to them.

Great Book! Nice Theme! Great for all kinds of Diverse People! :-)
I love the premise behind these books. I've purchased several for each person in my household. My husband was gifted the original, "How Full is Your Bucket?". My children own this one, "Fill a Bucket", "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?", and for my older child, "Growing Up with a Bucket Full of Happiness". The pictures in this one are cute, and show people from all kinds of diverse backgrounds. So it is appropriate for all. LOVE IT!!!

For young children
I believed this was the Have You Filled a Bucket Today? book with a new, redesigned cover. I was wrong. This book is geared more toward very young children in more of a home/family setting. I was wanting it for my 2nd grade class. I will have to order the correct version of the book.

One of the most important books I read to my class
One of the best books I read to my Pre-K class. After the first time a read it we use it as a tool to reinforce kindness. All I have to ask a child during an issue with another child is “are you filling their bucket?” and it’s a starting point to resolve that issue. What a wonderful way to help them understand kindness. This is most important lesson I teach all year.

Happiness is up to you
Filling other people's buckets brings happiness. Helps children think of others, not just themselves. Helps them in learning how to give unselfishly.

So, I bought this book because I thought it might be a nice concept for the kids to learn about empathy. And it is. The bucket idea floated around in our home for a few days. However, the book, as a book, is horrid. It's just a description of the concept. There is no hero with a conflict, there is no reason why anyone's buckets should be filled, there's just several pages saying: "We all have buckets! They get filled and they empty!" That's no way to teach children anything, at least not something you hope will stick with them. Waste of money.
