An adult opens in response to parenting
A series of poems written by a mother of a young child in response to the child reveals the growth in the parent, the opening of her mind to a broader view of life. Very well written, accessible but also ambiguous enough to be excellent poetry, this book takes the reader into the process that helps adults form maturity and can be growth producing to the reader.

I am so happy I bought this book of poems!
Maggie Smith has such a clear voice that can really paint a picture. Sometimes I read these poems outlaid and always hear, feel, think something new. This book is a keeper for life!

It was like a fine piece of jewelry or a beautiful painting
I just devoured this. It was like a fine piece of jewelry or a beautiful painting. The theme of motherhood and the softness and strength a mother has to balance for her children resonated with me. The poems about the girl and the hawk on the mountain are exquisite. Just achingly beautiful, this book will stay with you. I wish it was a novel.

Gloriously good
This collection is beautiful, honest, joyful, genuine and full of delicately realised technical skill. Maggie Smith has a pitch-perfect ear for the music and rhythm of words. This is one of the best collections I have read in recent years. Wonderful.

Evocative and scintillating words.
She's the best of our generation and she deserves to be read a lot more. I wish her other books were available here too. The poem Parachute hits the spot!
