I hadn’t realized that there was such a product until I was looking for other (rack & seat post mounting) accessories for my Garmin radar. But I am glad it exists since I sometimes worry losing the expensive radar on rides. The product is simple & cheap but it serves the purpose, & gives me confidence about the radar staying on the bike. I purchased this to protect my Garmin RTL515. The plastic is harder and provides a shell like covering. It does not obstruct the lights, buttons, or charging port and was very easy to install. I like that it includes a lanyard. I run the lanyard through part of my bike seat mount and then run the Garmin through that. This creates a loop. If something happens and my Garmin falls off the mount, then it will be secured by the lanyard. While that will likely never happen, it makes me feel more confident that my Garmin RTL515 is protected two different ways.

I purchased the Varia radar unit about two years ago. Love it, and wouldn’t ride without it. But I’ve always been concerned about the security of the Garmin mount using an O ring to attach the mount to the seat post. I Searched high and low to find something better, but haven’t been able to find anything that fits my “D” shaped seat post. Alternatively, In lieu of a better mount I’ve been searching for a way to secure the unit. Finally, I found this product! It checks all the boxes. It provides security, knowing that if the mount fails the unit will be saved by the tether. Performance does not seem to be affected. The tether attaches the unit to the saddle rails. Just be sure to let it dangle before you attach the unit to the mount. You want to make sure it doesn’t hang so low that it gets caught in the wheel should it fall off. A very small amount to pay for the piece of mind knowing that your $200 radar unit won’t be lost on a ride.

I was riding along a road a few years ago, hit a bump and my Garmin radar unit popped off and went screeching down the road to an ultimate death. Decided, I have a lot of money in electronics on my bike, maybe I should setup a backup plan in case the mount failed (which has happened to me a few times). This case and tassel fits great and is easy to apply. I wrap it around my seat post on every ride and now I have a lot more peace of mind about my investment. If that mount should fail, it will remain connected to my bike and I'll save myself from another expensive replacement.

I’ve been using Garmin’s Varia radar taillight for about 18 months. It works so well, that I really don’t want to ride without it! This case & lanyard just adds more peace of mind that the Varia won’t be lost on a bit of rough road or trail in the middle of nowhere. Installation is (literally) a snap, the case is barely noticeable, and the lanyard loops easily through my saddle rails. Giving it 4 stars only because the button to turn the light on/off is a little harder to press now than it is w/o the case. But overall, this is a minor issue exacerbated by the fact that I wear full-finger gloves and have a small saddle bag mounted directly above the light - so getting to the button isn’t as easy as it might be for others.
