Joshua, Judges, and Ruth: Finally in the Land (MacArthur Bible Studies)

I know John MacArthur is reliable and sound. I needed help teaching Judges through to the end. It's the last chapters that are the sticky wickets...hard stuff. So, what does our friend MacArthur do with the last chapters--after Samson? Absolutely nothing. That's 5 chapters in Judges that go completely unaccounted for. Anybody wanting the whole story needs to get it somewhere else. (Tim Keller is helpful, thankfully) And note, this is a Bible study, not a commentary; it's a different format.

Gag! When I bought this book, for a group Bible study, I knew the author was conservative...but it turned out to be much worse than I realized from the sample. For example, in a chapter about Deborah, one of the judges of Israel, the author says that "God calls men to take the lead in the church and home." Also, "it is easy to assume that the world's ideas of "egalitarianism" apply to the church..." Um, yes.Also, on a practical level, there's not much content in the book to study. I had to buy another (better) book as a supplement.

I'm thankful for John MacArthurs persistent teaching on the inerrancy of scripture and his zeal for trusting God and not man this study is good for helping with reading comprehension and life application of scripture.

Love John MacArthurs work. These are study questions and not in depth commentary. Good for self study.

Excellent, enjoyed reading the word this author simplifies and explain effects in sequence of events. Also, explains the rational for their period that makes it easier to understand.

Great insight on the scriptures, easy to understand. John McArther explained the readings scripture by scripture, then had a section that explored the meanings of the stories that were studied. It was a great tool for Bible study.

I never get tired of studying the word of God. This study book is packed with information that provides a clear understanding of each book and its intent.
