Easy to Install and Lasts 10 Years
I ordered a pack of five of these smoke detectors for my two store home. Enough to have one in each bedroom, one in the upstairs hallway, and one just outside the kitchen on the ground floor. They come with the detector, a mounting plate, hardware to mount, and instructions for mounting. I honestly didn't read the instructions for mounting, but I did look at them for activation information (will cover shortly). The mounting plate attaches to walls with three (3) screws, and there are gypsum board anchors that are in the box, but I did not use. The mounting plate can be mounted on a vertical or horizontal surface (I mounted them vertically).Install was fairly easy and took only a few minutes each. I only used a cordless drill with a drill bit, and phillips-head screwdriver. If you decide to use the gypsum board anchors, you may need a small hammer to tap them into place. Once the plate is mounted you simply put the detector in place and rotate and lock into place. It is important to note that you should not fit the detector onto the plate until you are ready to install, as it will activate the 10-year battery the first time you mount them together.Once installed, there is a small bar on the front of the detector that flashed about once per minute as a visual indication that the unit is functional. The light is bright enough to be seen in the daytime, but not so bring that it is intrusive at night. Even in a pitch black room, it really isn't noticeable unless you are looking in the direction of the detector. For people that are especially bothered by the light, it appears that you could just put a small piece of tape or paper over it to prevent it from being seen on a regular basis. There is a test / silence button on the front that I used to test the device once installed to ensure that they were working. As with most other detectors that I have had experience with, a short press yields an very loud high pitched noise that lasts a few seconds and then shuts off. I would say it is definitely loud enough to wake a sleeping person at night. The only things I noticed that would be helpful for the manufacturer to include would be a install date sticker that could be placed on the device so that you would know when the 10 years was coming to an end. I can imagine that after 10 years, it would be difficulty to remember exactly when you installed them. I fixed this be using a label maker to create my own sticker. On the plus side, these are zero maintenance, do not have any batteries to change, and should not require any interventions from me until I replace them in 10 years, which happens to be the useful life span of the detector itself. Currently it is recommended that smoke detectors be replaced every 10 years. Since installing them a couple of months I have not had any issues with them at all.The cost per unit seems very reasonable at the time of purchase, and I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

Good value
Easy to install. Low profile mounting plate required a bit of adjustment to make work with existing electrical boxes.

Replace old detectors.
I realized our smoke detectors were over 25 years old, and new legislation in our state says they must be replaced every 10 years. These have CO detection as well as smoke, and were easy to install. The green light is a little bright in the bedroom, but not too bad. It's a good upgrade for old detectors.

Good quality but tone down the light!
Easy to install and worked fine. The LED light is so bright I had to cover it up. It lit up our bedroom so much I could not sleep. I didn’t cover the hallway light and it makes a nice night light.

Don't talk to each other.
I bought 6 of these units and installed them correctly. All had interconnect wires, and all wired properly. They test and work but DO NOT INTERCONNECT. When you test one, that one goes off. None of the others sound off as they should. Had I know they wouldn't interconnect I would have paid a bit more and probably gone with Kidde. 2 hours before inspection and I had to worry about passing or not. I am not pleased with these units as they are supposed to talk to each other and don't . I just installed them yesterday, so if they don't last there will be another review coming.

Clean and sleek presentation
We had an electrician replace all 10 of our wired fire/carbon monoxide alarms as it had been 10+ years on our present alarms, and I asked him if he had ever seen these before and he said no, but agreed with me that he really liked their sleek clean look as much as I did. They do have a much brighter green LED light then most other smoke alarms, so just a heads up if you are used to a totally blacked out room for sleeping it does put off some light. We discovered that putting 2 to 3 one inch strips of masking tape over the LED allows you to still see the green light but greatly reduces the illumination and actually comes very close to matching the color of the alarm so it does not look tacky. Of course this is just personal preference if the LED light does not bother you no need to dampen its illumination. We only did this in a couple of bedrooms. If you like presentation, then it starts with the custom box they come in which gives it a similar feel as purchasing an apple product to a degree, and all this with an exceptional price that was significantly less than the main stream brands. We are hopeful they will last 10+ years and are pleased with our purchase.
