These are a great replacement for the grey silicone rings that come with the mason jar’s stainless steel storage lids. My cats like to steal dishes from the drying rack so I gave lost a few and needed replacements. These are a little thicker but still fit well. They are as easy to put in the lids the same way as tue original rings. They are a clear-ish white but for the stainless steel lids they are there to provide a sealing effect. They work really well - I tested them with both flour and liquid by shaking the jars and there wasn’t any spilling or leaking.

Decades ago, I bought 3 sets of 6 white plastic lids that fit wide mouth Mason jars and they did well enough stored in the fridge or used in my pantry, but I found that when I was using them to seal jars that would be heated in the microwave at work, they leaked in my lunch bag. ☹️ So I used to use the two-piece metal canning lids to transport and brought the white lids along to cover my food when they went into the microwave (Not so much to prevent my food from splattering, but to prevent the debris on the inside of the microwave from falling into my food. Yuk!). The lids like these that you can get in the stores around here now are black and have the same ridge inside the top of the lid near the screw grooves as the white ones. I have passed on a number of these older white lids to a friend to use temporarily since she found one of her chutneys had “eaten” the metal lid, dried up and died in the back of the fridge. Metal lids and vinegar don’t mix well…a warning to those who pickle and ferment and have open jars in the fridge…check them! These silicone inserts fit neatly inside the old white plastic lids that I still have and will most likely fit the black ones you can get in the store now. (I’ll be letting my friend know about these.). Personally, they should be selling those lids with silicone inserts or the inserts in a box near them on the same shelf. Further down the page in the listing for this product, it says to put the grooved side of the insert facing the lid. It was designed to fit over the ridges that appear in the top of the lid that go around the edge. For those who are saying that they leak, they are probably inserting them groove down, away from the lid, and/or not in lids that were designed to fit the wide mouth Mason-type canning jars. I tried the insert in my old white lid on a jar that has 3% salt brine ready to add to veggies for fermentation (It helps to heat the water to dissolve the coarse salt and then let it cool before use.) and there were no leaks. This product works as it should. Product is NOT for canning, nor are the plastic lids that they fit.

Using these silicone seal rings with wide-mouth mason jars and plastic lids - these silicone seals work perfectly. Too bad there aren't any more in-stock currently, as I would love to purchase more!
