Another O'Reilly homerun
Having studied the life of our most interesting President since high school, I found not only the facts I had discovered through my study but also a ton of new ones I did not, making this tragedy even that much more appealing !The writing style and the detailed explanation of the "mechanics" of the time period made the read that much more Interesting.Being able to use the Kindle highlight and search feature to find the meaning of 19th century terms and phrases expanded my vocabulary as well. All in all yet another excellent O'Reilly book that I will be buying in hardbound for my library.

Lincoln's Last Days
I purchased this book, Lincoln's Last Days: The Shocking Assassination That Changed America Forever by Bill O'Reilly because it is written for both adults and young adults. I wanted my eleven year old granddaughter to learn more about American History especially at a time when our current history is so different than previously. I read and loved the book. I have always been a history buff and thought I pretty much knew about Lincoln's life, the Civil War, Booth and Lincoln's assassination. I learned so much more and I was reading the book geared more to children and young adults. I live a few miles from the Booth House here in Maryland. I have toured the house and still did not know all that I learned in the book. I visit Gettysburg and Antietam. I have learned a great deal concerning Lincoln on these visits, but still learned more by reading the book. I learned about Lincoln' wife and children; and the other assassination attempts occurring at the same time Booth was shooting the President. I have now passed on the book to my granddaughter and I am going to order the adult version. I have also ordered "Killing Kennedy" and just by reading the first three chapters I know it will be as informative as Lincoln's Last Days, and I'll probably have it read in two days. Nothing is more fascinating than reading about American History!

Okay
This is not a scholarly work, but is entertaining enough, I guess.

Great book to read, although..................
it is very critical of the Confederacy/South in general. Slanted in fact if someone knew nothing about the war, as most don't, it could easily be interpreted the South was arbitrary and capricious to secede from the union. That the south had no provocations or reasons to act. Given actuality in fact there was a long laundry list from tariffs, and customs to outright not following the Constitution regards states rights

Glad I purchased the Childrens version
I was very excited about purchasing this book for my kids (11 and 13 years old). My son, especially, is a history geek. I was originally concerned on whether I should purchase this "young adult verson" or the "grown-up" version, KILLING LINCOLN. I'm pleased that I purchased this version. NOTE: This book is VERY detailed and almost written as a fact book leading up to and following the assassination -- it does NOT read like a novel as I had been expecting. My kids are sharing the book, back and forth, and competing with each other for possession! It's triggered a good deal of discussion at the dinner table, for sure! I'm sure I'm getting as much out of this (if not more) than the kids! Thank you, Mr. O'Reilly!!! Can you please draft a "young adult" version of KILLING KENNEDY?

Read it!
If you have an interest in history and what led up to Lincoln's death, the post civil war angst by the south against Lincoln and the North and finally the search for the killer and his cohorts (yes there were others involved) than you should really enjoy this book. It is a very short complete telling of the times that are so much a part of the history of the United States. What kind of person was John Wilkes Booth? How did Lincoln's wife deal with the death of her husband? How did Booth escape and how did he get apprehended? I know that you have these questions, so what are you waiting for... read the book! It's good.

Bought for my 13 year old son. He is not that much of a reader. But he read this and thoroughly enjoyed it. He is looking for more books by Mr. O'Reilly.

excellent
A great book on one of the most historical events of modern time presented in an excellent manner for kids of that age group. O'Reilly and Dugard make a great pair of authors and their work with facts not known to the average person is special

Informative
For a simple read and a good overview of the events it wasn't a bad read. Not overly well written, Aimed at a high school reader I would suspect.
