This Firewire 800 works among my 2007 2008 2009 2010 and other older Macs and to external LaCie.

FireWire is an important technology for a very small market segment. But those of us who use it are usually frustrated by the ungenerous length of cables included with devices we buy. If you need a little more, this is a good and affordable option.

This is working out really great so far. It's a little long, but it's better for it to be too long, rather than too short. At least this way I know I have some slack if I need it. This cable definitely works better than the one that came with my external hard drive, and if anything happens to this one, I'll buy the same one again. I think the person complaining of the plastic head getting stuck in their hard drive might have pulled it out a weird way, because I haven't had a problem yet, and I've been using this for a while now. Or, maybe theirs was defective? Or, maybe mine is somehow oddly more durable? Who knows. :)

I have a 2.5in portable drive in an enclosure with FW800. I wanted to connect it to the back of my Drobo which is connected to my MBP. I do this so I can rsync the portable to my Drobo as permanent storage. Cable works fine, nice quality. It doesn't feel flimsy, but solid without torquing so much it sends my small drive enclosure everywhere.

I needed a Firewire cable for connecting 2 MacBook Pro's together so I could create a disk image. This cable works great. It doesn't actually look like the picture, its not black. Its a clear pastic cover around a silver braid. If you compare Thunderbolt vs Firewire, obviously Thunderbolt wins everytime, but if you compare a $40 + Thunderbolt cable, this Firewire cable becomes a lot more competitive.

It's hard to say anything about a cable other than "it works". It doesn't come unplugged accidentally, or even with anything less than a moderate application of force, and it transfers data at the speed its supposed to. The length is good and I don't think that this cable will break on me with normal use. It just survived a move, too.

Bought a used Drobo...it didn't come with a cable...bought this one...it works. Don't really have a whole lot more to say about it. I mean really...it's a Firewire cable. I guess if it had had some kind of a defect and wouldn't actually transfer data from my Mac to the Drobo I might have had some kind of an issue...but it didn't. It worked.
