Aven Magnifying Lamp
Contrary to the negative reviews for the Aven 26505 5D magnifying lamp, I find the fearures of the lamp more than adequate, especially the 7.5 x 6.2 glass lens and light/temp adjustments.

Awesome light
Great light for your work desk, not your whole work studio. The head does not lean over as some reviewers complained, you have to tighten the knob on the head of the light. It works great for me, no tipping over.

1 star for appearance 0 stars for performance!
The appearance of the unit is very tidy and professional. If you want something that looks good but performs poorly, then you found the right product. Let me start off with the desk mount clamp. It is not a well designed clamp for the weight of the headpiece. The clamp moves around quite a lot. The base of the extension arm attached to the base through the use of a short, flimsy rolled 3/8th inch diameter metal tube that inserts into a single drilled hole in the clamp. There isn’t any sort of tension adjustment at this mounting point on the clamp and extension arm merely wallows around freely. Next, the description indicates the spring tension keeps the arms and headpiece in the working position. That could not be further from an accurate description. The only time the unit will stay in position is when it is folded in the stowed position. When placed into an operational position, the headpiece is so heavy, the arms droop down until the headpiece is resting on the work surface. This is because the spring tension is too weak to hold it in place. Unfortunately, there isn’t any means to correct the droop by adjusting the tension by either changing the springs or using friction adjustment bolts and knobs. The sad part is, I did not discover these flaws until after the return window closed because that is when I setup my new workstation. It looks like I’ll be re-engineering this high dollar under engineered and substandard performing piece of….. “equipment”.

Won't stay in place
Item will not stay in place unless it is down. If you push it up it just drops back down and there is no adjustment. I am keeping it but have to rotate it either right or left to move it out of work area. I called Aven and they said that was normal even though their advertisement says otherwise. I did not purchase it from Amazon.

A beautiful magnifying lamp
A well made superb magnifying lamp. Large lens allows me to see small things while I am knitting very clearly. Unlike other magnifying lamps this lamps does not have exposed springs. Color temperature of the LEDs can also be adjusted as well as the brightness. Love this lamp

Poor quality and lazy engineering make this an overpriced investment
The lamp is not double-boxed when shipped so it arrives with a a beaten-up outer box over a styrofoam inner box. The box suffered several punctures in transit. No damage to the lamp, though. The foam box is completely wrecked inside by the lamp's movement during transit. Expect pulverized styrofoam going everywhere and static clinging to the surroundings when unboxing. At first look, the magnifying glass is hazy with some kind of greasy grime that was hard to remove even with Windex. At least this is actual glass and not plastic. One would think there would be some sort of quality control that would send out clean lamps instead of filthy ones. The lamp itself looks nice. No exposed springs. However, the lone adjustment knob is much undersized and completely overworked when tightening the head unit. Inadequately sized washers are distorted from the compression force of tightening the knob. I don't expect this mechanism to last long. No lubrication is used anywhere (except on the glass, apparently). Once you crank the knob down so things stay in place, the knob freezes and can't be loosened again with unaided hands. This not acceptable. I had to use a wrench over a soft rag to grip this flimsy knob so that I could loosen it. I'm disappointed. For this much money I would expect a unit that works smoothly. I like the fact that the lamp uses LEDs. The brightness and color temp are nice touches. It is annoying that the settings are not retained when the lamp is switched off. One more thing to have to do before getting started on work is to fiddle again with the controls to get the lamp to light the surface the way it was last time. This is a nice 75-dollar lamp but since it costs about 2.5 times that much it is not that great.

Narrow Depth of Field, Distortion
I bought this lamp for a benchtop work light, but the depth of field of the magnifier is too narrow for anything but working on printed material. The distortion around the periphery of the viewing window is very unpleasant. Would not recommend for anything besides scrapbooking or stamp collecting.
