Works as intended at a relatively cheap price
These filters do their job and last a while before needing replacement. Only thing to watch out for is making sure you run them under water for a while before using them. The filters will work for the 1/2, 1, and 2 gallon water fountains made by PetSafe. Company also says it's compatible with their other fountains. When buying a pack of 12, they come in a small cardboard box but are individually plastic wrapped. The filters work as intended. A lot of grime that builds up over time from my two cats drinking water out of the fountain will collect on the filter. However, don't overestimate these either. They only work as well as the fountain can use them. I have the 1 gallon water fountain. I will still find small particulates at the bottom of the water. But I believe that is just the fountain not being able to cycle water with enough strength. Do they last 4 weeks like PetSafe claims? Maybe. If you remember to change out the water and clean the fountain each week, you might make a filter last 4 weeks. However, I do not do a full clean of the fountain each week. I usually do that at the 2-3 week mark. My filters average around 3 weeks this way, which is good enough for me. These are charcoal filters so it's normal to see black particulates when you first open them from the packaging. Rinsing is extremely important to prevent them from ending up in the water fountain. I run the filter under water for around 1 minute on both sides to make sure the loose charcoal gets washed out. If you do that, you shouldn't end up with any charcoal buildup in the fountain. Does the initial type of water used affect results? I believe it does. I've tested with regular tap from the faucet, filtered water from the fridge, and bottled water. When using regular tap water, I notice a lot more buildup on the insides of the fountain versus filtered/bottled water. I also feel that the filters last longer if you use cleaner water initially. Overall, for the price, these filters do their job. The minor complaints I have apply more to the fountain design than the actual filters themselves.

Keeps the water fresh and clean
I’ve been using these Drinkwell filters for my two pet fountains for years. They keep the water clean and fresh and are easy to replace every few weeks. I like that I can order them in bulk too and the price is fair and affordable. Would definitely recommend.

Works in Our Fountain
We use these charcoal filters in our PetSafe Drinkwell 1-gallon fountain for our two Alaskan Malamutes. They handle a large amount of water and are the same filters we have used for all of our Drinkwell fountains. This means that if our fountain breaks, it will not be compatible with whatever fountain we buy next. The design works well, and it lasts about a month before we need to replace it (our girls are constantly dirtying their water with food and fur). It works better than the knockoff regarding the overall cleanliness of the girls' water.

Much better than the less expensive knock-offs
These filters are superior to the less expensive knock-offs - they have more carbon and the construction is superior - they make cost more but IMHO they are worth the extra cost

Try a water additive too!
Work can fit great. I changed them out every 3 to 4 weeks. I do highly recommend using. Oratene water additive to help keep the water fountain from getting slimy. And keeping the filter from getting slimy.
