An eMTA modem combines the functionality of a DOCSIS cable modem and a phone adapter in one device. (cite: TimeWarnerCable.com)Answer: Unfortunately it does not. Q: Is it better to CALL Comcast to activate this modem, or do the computer activation (inserting model and MAC numbers)?

I tried to activate the modem on a 2014 MacBook Air and could not sign into the Comcast Activation site. Used the instant messaging option, spent 45 min on line with Dreed and Ubrla (had to be in Bangladesh or India). Spent the majority of my time declining the offers to "up-sell" me on packages I don't want. Was told the new modem was activated and good to go. Not true, no internet 30 minutes after completing my dialog with the Comcast customer representatives by intant messaging. Was finally able to activate the modem on-line in 5 min when I signed in to Comcast. DO NOT CALL COMCAST, WASTE OF TIME. Customer service is a front to try and up-sell you and promise the world if you do. GO ON LINE AND ACTIVATE THE MODEM! BTW, the modem works wonderfully and has very, very fast up and down speeds.

Q: what is the difference between 6121 and 6141

6121 is an older version of the 6141. the 6121 has a max speed of up to 172 meg down, and has 4 up and down channels, where the 6141 has a max download speed of over 300 meg down, and has 8 downstream channels and 4 upstream. that means that they both have the same number up upstream channels, but the 6141 has double the downstream, which is why its download ability is double the 6121. I have seen that the 6141 has a built in filter to eliminate interference, but could not find any info that said that the 6121 has one, so the filter may only be on the 6141. They both use the same range of frequencies, same connections, same compatibilities (docsis 1, 2, and 3 support), and support IPv4 and 6 too. So basically, on the modems side, it looks like the biggest difference is the 6141 has double the download ability/channls, and a built in filter. other then that, they are the same.Also, according to time warners page, if you have internet through them, they will only support the 6121 model up to 50 meg down, but they 6141 will support up to 100 meg down. that does not mean that is all that the modem will support, but that, that is all that time warner will support them for. basically, it works like this. The manufacturer (motorola) puts basic info into the software on this, then when you connect it to your cable company, they upload a file to it to tell it how it will work. When this first came out, 50 meg was the max download that the cable companies had, so it is possible that since the configuration file that they had for the 6121 works fine, and since this is now an older model, that they just dont want to be bothered with making a new config file since the old one works fine. but i can not say for sure.

Q: does the SB6141 support wireless

No it does not. It is a Cable Modem and does not do any router functions. You have to use the Ethernet out to your router to do the wireless or wired networking. The SB6580 is modem and router in one, which I had previously and would not recommend from my experience. I feel it is better to have separate modem and router. I personally run a Motorola SB6141 modem with a Netgear AC1750 router. They work very well on Comcast.
