A bit awkward but does the job
Good: Performs as advertised. The subject is a pair of leather boots that have a heavy seam right across the instep. I have high arches, so despite their fitting well otherwise they were quite uncomfortable. These are one of only a few stretchers that spread vertically, and so were perfect for this task. For each boot, I slipped the stretcher into place, applied some spray (Foot Matters Shoe Stretch) along the seam, cranked the stretcher up tight, and left it for two days. Instep ridge completely gone, boots are now comfortable. Bad: The shape is rather more pointy than it should be. I had a difficult time getting the stretcher into position, and it still didn't quite hit the sweet spot so I had to open it way more than was necessary, causing the instep area to overstretch a little along the sides. It has tightened up a little over a few wearings. Someone with a bunion might not be able to insert it far enough to be effective. The overall quality is OK for the price, which isn't saying a lot. The U-joint in particular is not well engineered and cheaply made, tending to bind at more than about 20 degrees off-axis. Ugly: This matters because it will be difficult to keep the handle straight when using the stretcher as intended. With the mid-height boots I was stretching, I had to cup the shaft of the boot rather severely to keep the handle straight enough to tighten the stretcher. I suspect that, were this used on an actual cowboy boot, it might be difficult or impossible to tighten. Bottom line: You get what you pay for. It works, for a limited set of use cases, and probably for no more than occasional use. Five stars, mainly because it *did* work for me.

Great for the price! Needs a bit of set-up to use (see CONS).
I'm quite pleased with this little shoe stretcher. For the price, it's exactly what I was looking for, and I would buy it again. (BTW: This is almost certainly the same product as all the other identical-looking listings on Amazon with unpronounceable brand names. I suggest buying the cheapest one...that's what I did!) PROS: 1) Sturdy construction. I know that others have complained about the screw mechanism coming out of its mounting place, but I don't know how this could happen except for a) manufacturer defect (most likely), or b) they super-over-tightened it until it broke (doubtful.) My experience with the product is that the plastic molded parts are good quality and plenty strong for the job (I'm a mech. engineer who deals in plastic parts like this) and the screw mechanism is also perfectly adequate for the intended purpose. 2) Cheap and "does what it says on the tin". I have high insteps, and I used this to stretch out a new pair of work boots with no issues. Be sure to spray the inside and outside of the boot with a 50/50 mixture of 70% isopropyl alcohol and water before you start! 3) Included inserts allow you to focus on specific places that need extra stretching. I used the instep insert. CONS 1) No heel brace makes it slip out of place. **THIS COULD BE A DEAL BRAKER FOR SOME PEOPLE!** If you buy this you'll need to wedge something down into the heel area to keep the stretcher pushed into the "vamp" (the part of the boot that covers the top of your foot.) I used a piece of scrap wood and an old gear shift knob from a car. You'll have to be creative! 2) Turning the rod to expand the stretcher can be difficult. You won't be able to do it with the rod at a 90 degree angle to the clamshell part. Instead, you'll have to a) place the stretcher in the shoe, b) wedge something into the heel area as described above, c) angle the rod back to something closer to 45 degrees (you'll have to bend the "shaft" (vertical part) of the boot over to do this), d) turn the rod to expand the stretcher.

Worked great
Bought some men’s western boots that I loved except they really hurt the top of my feet. There boot stray here worked perfectly. Boots fit great. No damage to the boots and easy to use. Great value for the money

Be aware before ordering!
First of all, it is buried in the description, but who reads the entire description? - This only comes with one stretcher, not a pair. I’ve never heard of shoe stretchers being sold individually as pretty much anytime you need to stretch a shoe you will need to stretch both shoes. Secondly, although the description at the top says men and women, upon receiving the item, and looking more closely in the description lower down the page, this is for a women’s boot, and not men’s. It is way too narrow to stretch, my men’s size 11 boots. And the third issue… This stretcher is designed to stretch vertically and not horizontally. So if your shoe or boot is too narrow, the stretcher will do nothing for it. So if you are a woman with 1 foot thicker than the other foot, this product is for you! If you are a man who needs to stretch his shoes or boots a bit wider, then keep looking and don’t waste your money.

Sturdy enough
I bought this to stretch out a rather expensive new set of shoes. My concern was that this device would be too flimsy but it turned out to be strong enough for the job. A few applications on my shoes and they stretched nicely. The nugget like things really help stretch specific areas as well. Just go slow and deliberate.

Stopped working after 1.5 months
I used this for 1 pair of boots. Actually, just one boot of the pair. I used it twice on that boot, but during the use of the third time, it bound up and now I can't tighten or loosen it. seems like a waste of money if it'll only last for two stretching uses.

Works Well
Works as expected, no issues. Stretching the upper arch section of a pair of leather cowboy boots. So far so good. Be sure to apply lots of leather lotion when stretching to avoid cracking and damage!

Revised review
I am revising an originally poor review. Product expands as the website photo illustrates. It seems if you crank it one way it expands slightly, if you crank it the other way it expands fully. (Duh!) Plastic used for the wedge is quite substantial, as are the metal screw rods. It remains to be seen whether it will win the battle with my tightly seamed and embroidered cowboy boots.

Easy to use. Hard to get inside the boot as it will be snug. Comes only as 1pc so maybe buy 2, otherwise you need to use in one boot then wait 24hrs to use on the other boot. I bought a new pair boots that is quite hard to get in and off my feet.
