I really like this book on many different aspects. It describes a different model of teaching where students are empowered rather than included in a system designed to make them functional for the actual order of the society but not for themselves. Mr. Gatto tells us his professional story, the way he cared about his students. How the students from the problematic Harlem won on competitions against students from the exclusive schools of Manhattan. It tells us the story of how and why the schooling system in the US, and so in the rest of the West, became what it is now and proposes an alternative. The writing style is easy and entertaining.

One for he best books I’ve ever read. I’m a bookworm and this did not disappoint. I’ve since purchased several more of Mr. Gattos books as it pulls the veil back on the “public education system “ and exposes it for what it truly is, a system of mental enslavement.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Underground History of American Education by John Taylor Gatto is an eye-opening and thought-provoking book that challenges everything we think we know about the education system in America. As a former educator, Gatto provides a unique insider perspective on the history, purpose, and hidden agendas behind modern schooling, and his insights are both compelling and alarming. The book meticulously traces the origins of compulsory education, showing how the system was designed not to empower students, but to control and mold them into obedient workers. Gatto presents a wealth of historical facts and evidence that illustrate how the education system has been used as a tool for social engineering rather than fostering individual thinking and creativity. What sets this book apart is the depth of research and the fearless way Gatto connects the dots between education, politics, and economics. He isn’t afraid to question authority or challenge long-held beliefs, and his writing encourages readers to do the same. His analysis of the factory model of schooling, designed to produce conformity rather than brilliance, is especially powerful. Despite its heavy themes, the book is accessible and engaging. Gatto writes with passion and clarity, and he uses personal anecdotes, historical accounts, and academic research to build his case. It's not just a critique of the system; it also offers a call to action for parents, teachers, and students to take control of their own education and think critically about the role of schooling in their lives. In conclusion, The Underground History of American Education is a must-read for anyone interested in the future of education, personal freedom, and intellectual growth. It’s a book that will leave you questioning the status quo and rethinking what it means to be truly educated. Highly recommended!

You won't be sorry you read it. Life changing book. Do not let the fact that it is about American schools put you off. It is still very relevant
