Quality, History and Empathy sold this Cyclist
I know, it costs a lot. Yes, it's just a pocket pump and it still takes a lot of strokes to inflate a 25c tire, although it feels a few less than most other mini-pocket pumps I've used. And yes, I have owned a few other pocket pumps in the last ten years. I lost one, hated another and had one stolen. I was pretty happy when the last one was stolen because I had already handled this Pocket Impero at my LBS. My advice, don't handle or touch Silca products if you don't want to buy them. My old pumps were good value but one was a little big, one had a clunky hidden hose to deal with and the other was just garbage. They all cost under $30. This Silca pump, it just feels nice. In the hand, it has a certain weight to it. It feels like an early gen iPhone, a little heavier than it should be for its size, balanced, a little more substantial feeling than other products on the market, not girthy, mentally weighted.I've come to a point in my cycling life that I like to have quality things. They are not always the most expensive things but they should be attractively designed, well made and utterly capable for whatever purpose they were produced. As much as I appreciate and enjoy riding, I also enjoy the weird rituals and the often strange sartorial side of the sport. Cycling is a funny thing, we wear spandex. This pump is beyond expensive. It also happens to fit all of my cycling wants and needs. It works very well.Silca was an Italian company with a rich history in cycling. You can read about it on Silca's website if you are so inclined. Although I get a sense that their spiritual home is still Italy, the company is now owned by someone in the United States and the products are produced in Indianapolis, Indiana. The new owners espouse their dedication to making functional, beautiful things and carrying on this tradition from the old world. I like this and appreciate that these products are made in the USA but give a lot of lip service to that which came before. Great marketing or a sense of humility, you decide. I take pride in the craftspeople that are able to make a living in this country and produce things of utmost quality. I was one of these people in another life and feel a part of that world somehow. As such, I want them to succeed. These are some of the reasons why I paid $120 for this pump.

Doesn't work
Bought this pump because I have great experience with Silca in general and also the great reviews here on Amazon. I wanted to have confidence when I rode that I would always be able to pump my tires and not be reliant on a single co2 cartridge. I've had this for several months and, unfortunately, every single time I have tried to use it on the road it has failed to work. It is both very hard to properly attach since there are no threads and no locking mechanism, and also very hard to remove as it seems to get stuck really hard to the valve stem. I've recently written Silca to see if perhaps I have just received a defective product, but it seems like it might just be a bad design. Only thing that gives me some hope is these other reviewers. Will try to update if this is resolved.

Total Garbage
A pump that doesn’t pump a tire? Spend $120 for a pump that doesn’t attach or inflate a tire.. complete garbage, returned immediately.

Almost makes getting flats tolerable
If your on the side of the road you might as well use the best pump there is. Took me only minutes to pump up a 700x25 tire on a recent ride. So small it fits in any jersey pocket but as efficient as many larger pumps. only gripe is if your valve stem is to short or to long the pump head is difficult to get seated.

Great pump!
Small form factor, with great pump performance. Excellent product, has me rethinking whether I need to carry CO2 any longer.

It's the best
After going through a few cheaper pumps and being dissatisfied I bought this Pocket Impero. It reminded me of the quality frame pumps they used to make when they were Italian owned. Being an engineer myself I really appreciate the extra effort that went into making this product the best there is. I don't have any regrets buying it even though it's expensive.Pros: It's a beautifully made piece that will last you a long time. It's serviceable if something wears out or breaks. It's durable and has been very reliable. It's short enough to fit in a jersey pocket but still able to pump tires up to pressure.Cons: It's a little heavy. It's expensive. It is jersey pocket only, no mount for your bike (but you wouldn't want to leave such a nice pump on your bike anyway would you?)
