Disappointing
This book contains a readable explanation for the theory and science behind infection control. However, it is let down by a distinct lack of focus on how this is applied clinically by infection control specialists/teams. Notably only a brief description of the structure and function of an IPCT is given. As a junior infection control specialist this book was not as useful as I anticipated in helping guide my clinical activities. E.g. audit, training, production of advisory literature, behavioural change processes, management of outbreaks by the IPCT etc were not covered in sufficient (in some cases any) detail. In addition to this the book contains numerous spelling errors and the photographs used for illustration are very old in some cases, it is unclear why more up to data images were not used. I would not recommend this book to anyone who wishes to gain any insight into the functional role of an infection control specialist, it is perhaps more useful from and academic perspective or for individuals who are either involved in front line clinical work or writing IPC policy.
