cheap plastic, or priceless memories rekindled? *UPDATE INCLUDED to highlight details I find pertinent
I am a recovering die cast collector, and am not ashamed to say it. I have hoarded cars in their original packaging, not daring to go near the edges of the box for fear of possible corner tears. Mint condition with no access to sunlight was my motto. And for what? Some "guy" telling me he'll give me an extra few dollars because there was no dust on the top of the package? Where was the joy of the car itself? i never actually saw the extreme details or the fine artwork, because they remained entombed in their hardboard sarcophagi. I decided it was time to stop worrying about the mint values and reconnect with the happiness of "owning" a specific car or vehicle just because it appeals to me!I remember the simpler days of my childhood, when I begged and pleaded with my parents to find for me anything Batman related. They had found for me the Corgi die cast Batmobile that I happily tore out of its (then) insignificant box and roared around my yard not caring if Robin got lost, or if the bat missiles never got found after shooting them out of the missile launcher on the trunk. The only misgiving I had was that it was so small! I wanted a car to push over the dirt and grass hills and park in my Mego batcave! There were other larger Batmobiles, but they lacked any detail; like the original Star Wars figures. Now, Mattel has answered this man/boy's wish with a BIG Batmobile! With 100% more detail than the vehicles of the past. This Batmobile has such a large and impressive presence, and its packaging has such faithful representations of the TV show, the box becomes its own Batcave! No, it doesn't have real fastening seat belts, nor an operational batphone, and the body is made of plastic. It is, to me, a delightful combination of the cars of my past, made of plastic, with added detail that I only dreamed about, just as I dreamed I would one day own a replica Star Trek communicator ( remember the 1978 walkie-talkies?)This is a visceral vehicle that should transport us back to those blissful summer days that would have been boring and unbearable, if it weren't for our beloved toys! I dare you to take it out of the box and run in a circle around the floor-- go on, do it!It has been pointed out to me that there is a decided lack of detail about the car itself; I thought the vehicle's details had been adequately covered in other reviews and didn't want to be redundant. So, here you are:First, the price has come down to its current level of $23.84, so if you have any concern about a car this size being worth the money, YES, this is time to buy. That being said, there are points of detail that are lacking, as it is still a plastic-body car geared for youngsters to play with; it is NOT on the level of a Hotwheels Elite car. ( It IS an car that is 18 inches long and comes in a box that has cool retro artwork.)For instance, the painted red pin stripes that go from the edge of the door to the rear bat fins fails miserably where the separate plastic pieces come together at said fin area. The stripe changes width dramatically from approx 1/8" to less than 1/16". Very poor seam connection there. The stripes and door bat are painted, not decals, so that's a plus. The wheels do turn, and are made of plastic. I prefer plastic, as they hold up better over time than the "real rubber" that can dry-rot, but you decide for yourself if that's a negative, as it's obvious that they are plastic when you look at it. The finish of the body is not "glossy" by any standard of a diecast vehicle collectible, but has a more "semi-gloss" finish instead. If you went at it with some automotive buffing polish, you might raise the gloss factor, but there are those pesky pinstripes and door bats to work around. The TV car always seemed to have a kind of semi-gloss finish, probably to avoid glare and reflection from the lights on set, so technically, you could say that it is "screen accurate" ;) The six inch figures DO fit in the car, so, bonus! There is a newer "version" of this car with Batman and Robin INCLUDED!! I have seen this combo car and figure package at my local Dayton area Toys R Us for $69.99 just a few days ago, and do not know if it is offered on the TRU website or not. It is the same car with the wonky rear fin stripes, and includes the two figures that you would have gotten with the "wall climbing" package of Batman and Robin, that is, as far as I know, the only other way to get a Robin figure. The hood and the doors do NOT open, but there is quite a bit of detail in the cockpit, including a fire extinguisher, bat phone, t-shifter, and bat parachute pull ring. The center console is ribbed in the classic "60's style, and there is a seat belt-- in the passenger side only.--Why?-- beats the heckoutta me.There is no shiny chrome, but the silver pieces are a matte aluminum look, like the dashboard of a 2005 Mustang GT. The rear bat rocket pipes are of said color, as well as the (also screen accurate) "Rader" rims. Speaking of the rims, the wheel bats are a separate piece from the rim, so there is a higher than expected level of detail there that is very noticeable. The bat-radar-scope antenna on the hood and the police light on the arch are nicely detailed as well.Again, I feel it is a definite bargain for the going rate of $23.84 (as of this posting, anyway), and I was a willing buyer when it was at $50, and did not feel disappointed at that time of purchase.I do hope that this is helpful, and appreciate your willingness to read this far in my new "detailed" review!

00 it is a nice collectible. Made of plastic
I received my Batmobile this month (Oct 2015) and despite all the mixed reviews, for $38.00 it is a nice collectible. Made of plastic, but detailed to include a small bat phone in the cockpit and the 6 inch Batman and Robin figures fit inside with room to spare. The only gripe I have with this item is that the seat belts are rubbery and hard to secure while you figure is in the vehicle. It has a semi-glossy look to it which I don't see any scuffs or scratches to the body like other people mentioned. Overall very satisfied with this item and makes a great piece for any diorama makers or action figure collectors.

Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile
The Batman TV Series from the 1960s was one of my favorite TV shows. The Batmobile was a big part of the show. Who would have thought back then we could some day own one! Toys weren't as detailed back then. I believe I paid about $51 with shipping. That seemed like a lot so I checked into it. This same car has sold for over $100 on ebay and you see it for $60 + shipping. This is a deal. I saw in one review someone said don't miss out. The diecast ones were about this price and now they are pricey. I will leave mine in the box so I don't care if the wheels turn or not I wish I had bought the diecast one but I really like this one. It looks like the real thing! Get it while you can or before someone starts buying them up and reselling them at a higher price. Brings back memories of the TV show too!

Great "toy".
This is a wonderful toy Batmobile. I only paid $50 for mine here on Amazon which is less than retail but honestly, overpriced by about $15-$20. This is a lightweight plastic toy, not a real collector class item. There's no metal here. No turning wheels. Nothing extra really. It's a nice, detailed toy, and thus my high ranking. I love mine but if I was one of the people who paid $100 for this around Christmas, I would be sorely disappointed. Put it in your cart and watch for a deal on it. The figures look good in it, despite the cumbersome seat-belts. It's been a long time coming and I'm sure that figures into the higher retail price on this item.

A collector item or an overpriced kids' toy?
Although 50 dollars is lower than the original retail price, I feel this is still far more expensive than it should be.Granted, the car IS massive, at 18 inches long - but it's still a big hunk of mostly plastic, and this kind of soft rubbery material all the accessories are made of - but not the wheels, oh no. I wasn't expecting die cast construction, but at least having opening doors would've been nice - but apart from the wheels and the steering wheel, this has absolutely no moving parts whatsoever. Unless you could the seatbelts, which can be a real pain in the backside to get into place once you insert the figures into the seats. I used hobby pliers to pull the seatbelts' ends at the bottom of the vehicle. At least Batman can actually grab the steering wheel. This batmobile doesn't really "feel" like a collector item, more like an expensive childrens' toy. The construction is similar to one - the only thing that raises it above such is the quality of the paint apps, which are pretty good - but could still be better.

For a plastic model it looks very nice. The level of detail is really nice
I managed to get this one for about $30 with shipping . For a plastic model it looks very nice. The level of detail is really nice. I've seen this car sold by other sellers for around $50-60. It's still worth the money at that price. But I've been told there's one out in the market that includes the figures of Batman and Robin, had opening doors , and an opening hood with engine. I'm very happy with the one I got, but if you want all the bells and whistles you might want to shop a little harder .
