Let me make this clear first: if you’re buying this because you heard it’s “90% like the original” and you’ve smelled the original before, stop and think twice...or at least read this review. Is this a good cologne? In my opinion, yes. It smells high quality, well until you smell it side by side with the original. When doing so, it feels less round, more narrow, less great. Anyway, regarding the smell, if you don’t compare them directly, it’s definitely in the same ballpark. But once you do, the differences become quite noticeable. This one is darker, smokier, and more linear. The original is sweeter, more oud-forward, and clearly has the classic three phases: opening, dry-down, and base. In the air, they feel somewhat similar, but on the skin they are quite different. For me, this is more “inspired by” than an actual clone, assuming my 10 ml decant of the original (bought from a reputable store) is truly the OG and not the "Neo" version. That said, I actually like the first few hours of this one a bit better. It is more masculine, and the smoke and darkness are right up my alley. It projects louder than the original but lasts about the same, whether on skin or clothes... almost never-ending. The smoky, interesting part lasts a good while; I’d say around 6 hours. After that, it moves into the base, and this is where I prefer the original. The OG is fresher, better blended, and doesn’t have any odd notes. This one, unfortunately, does. On areas where you might sweat a bit (neck), it turned into something resembling a hamster cage (on my t-shirt) when smelled up close. I assume that’s the not that great blended oud. From the air it comes across as a strange sweet resin like smell, and something animalic lingers arround, slightly too animalic note for my taste. Will I keep it? Yes. Would I keep it if I owned a full bottle of the original? Probably not. Still, this fragrance can stand on its own without comparison. It has presence and strength, and smells original. Blind buy worthy? For me yes, but it think many people could find this offensive, probably as many as the ones finding the OG offensive. As for the dry down, i have it like 3 weeks now and got a bit better in time (for those with "macerate in mind). I doubt it will get better further on. But I’ll defintely give it more wears (because well, i like the first 6 hours a lot), and if the dry gets any better for me, i'll edit. Avoid spraying this indoors at firs, do a few sprays outside instead, maybe 10–20 times. It is REALLY loud. If you have kids, that’s even more reason to be careful. The presentation is okay, but the box is huge and could (and should) be much smaller. The foam inside smells bad and actually transfers that smell to the bottle, so I took the bottle out and threw the box away.
