what is the actual height of the double canister and bracket unit. 20.2 inches seems really tall.

Bottom of canisters to top of bracket is 15". Canisters themselves are 12". Need to make sure there is a 4 to 5 inch clearance on bottom in order to drop the canister down from the sleeve. Hope this helps.

what is the flow rate?

The flow rate is slower than my regular faucet but I find it just fine. The water has to go through 2 filters and they need to do their job. It produces one quart in 18 seconds.

Can I use gac1 carbon bed cartridges in these tanks?

Good question. I think three-four years is good but changing the O-ring regularly is core in long lasting units.
