Midnight Tides: (Malazan Book of the Fallen 5) : Erikson, Steven: desertcart.ae: Books Review: Non ne sbaglia una! Book 5 takes place years before the start of the series and gives context that is absolutely needed for book 6. Book five in many ways could be used as an introduction to the series as a whole due to it being entirely separate from the first 4 books, with the exception that one character is present in book 4. This is in my top 3 favorite fantasy books of all time. Interesting characters and vast world building. There is a conversation in the middle of the book on how warrens work that I almost felt like should have been used in book 1 of the series for them to make sense. The book really ends on a fantastic high note and has very memorable moments. The Tehol and Bugg dynamic is a constant source of amusement and creative plot progression.

Took a while to warm up, but well worth it.

Other fans of this series may not agree, but I have found every book thus far to be more enjoyable and compulsively readable than the one before. Memories of Ice, especially during the latter half, is when I became entirely consumed by the story. I found House of Chains to be even more well-written and engaging. And Midnight Tides was the best yet. This book is so superbly crafted that every conversation is a joy. It is also laugh out loud funny in parts, devastating (of course) in parts, and just an absolutely riveting, compelling, imaginative, meticulously plotted (albeit confusing at times) masterpiece of fantasy fiction. I am just about to crack open The Bonehunters (book 6) and am 100% committed to reading this incredibly vast, emotionally fulfilling, and brilliantly composed series to its completion. Don't start here, though. Read the previous four books first. If you are not hooked by the latter half of MoI, the Malazan series might not be for you. But as I have said, it just seems to get better and better as you proceed.
