An excellent resource for raising teens as well as younger children.
My wife and I raised five children, four boys and finally a girl. There was a big difference in raising them. With boys I was more of a drill sergeant but with my daughter, that tactic didn't work because she would just cry. A lot of trial and error went into raising those five children and had I read and studied the areas that, "Parenting Teens in stressful Times," teaches, I suspect there may have been some different outcomes in my children's lives. I will say however, that all my children are excellent parents, great workers, and just great human beings. Of course their mother had the greatest influence in their turning out as well as they did.The book was written by two LDS women who have put together some excellent observations and experiences, as well their professional training to help parents deal with and interact with teens. The beginning discusses resilience and its importance in raising children. They then go on to discuss the role of positive and negative emotions in our everyday lives and healthy ways to deal with them. For me, the rest of the book was where the meat of the book got most of my attention. Not only did it give examples of positive parenting, but had me introspecting about my own personal being and what I might have done differently. For those parents rearing children, I think this book is an excellent help if you are willing to be open to self reflection and willing to take the information and apply it in your families. It's LDS oriented but certainly applicable to all parents. The great thing about this book is that its easily read and not too lengthy.

Practical and caring solutions for parenting teens
The book “Parenting Teens in Stressful Times” by Doty and Peterson is an excellent resource for parents who are seeking well-researched, practical solutions to support their teens. This brief and well written manual addresses how parents can build resilience and stress-reducing strategies for their teens. Examples of specific parenting behaviors and support are contextualized from the perspective of most effective research findings and from a spiritual grounding. Moreover, the authors provide important suggestions for how parents can and should care for themselves in times of stress in order to be both good parents and good role models. An example of the authors’ approach may be found in Chapter 4 “Parenting Teenagers” where they outline some of the evidenced-based parenting techniques that have been shown to work best with teens. This summary chapter gives a overview of “the best of” research and connects it with practical examples and spiritual awareness. It is particularly noteworthy to find positive parenting, good communication, and non-authoritarian interaction being linked to a scriptural heritage of love rather than control and dominance.Written for these times of pandemic, disruption and stress, Doty’s and Peterson’s book is what every family of faith needs to re-envision themselves as people who can cope, grow through adolescence, care for each other, and find avenues of service. It provides real solutions that can affect immediate change.

Great resource-feels like getting advice from a friend (but it's research backed!)
This book is a really good read for anyone wanting to strengthen a relationship with teens. The authors present current and applicable research in an easy-to-digest way. Along with the research, there are real-life examples of ways to apply the research, as well as spiritual tie-ins (specifically quotes and scriptures from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints faith). The book is written in a really down-to-earth way, and it feels like reading advice from a friend (but the advice is research based!). It's a book that I believe I'll read again and again.

Great information for raising teenagers
I feel like this book has a lot of great information. I am the mother of three teens, 18, 17 and 14. I have learned a lot from reading this book and realized that there are things I need to change as well as things I've done correctly. Although children don't come with instruction manuals, this does provide information that I think would be in the manual if there were one. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this!

I especially appreciate the real life personal examples and situations that are discussed. I really enjoyed chapters 5 & 6 and am going to incorporate those ideas into raising my 2 teenagers.
