Database Systems: Introduction to Databases and Data Warehouses

Comprehensive with lots of hands on exercises!
I used the textbook for teaching a intro-level database class at a university. This book was a life saver. It explains things very well and I don't have to worry too much about coming up with homework and exam questions because there are plenty of exercises in the book (and in the test bank if you have access to instructor resources). I would definitely recommend it to an undergraduate database course.

A great book
This book is the best source I have found to learn the Entity-Relationship Diagram (ERD) because it has lots of examples. Though there are different resources also to learn Database Systems.

Better than the average textbook, with some small issues
Reads better than the average textbook, but leaves something to be desired. It's explanation of SQL is a good jumping off point, hardly comprehensive though, and there needs to be more explanation of the transition between ERD and the Logical Schema. Normalization needs a little more algorithmic explanation, but the real missing link is the lack of explanation of how to go from a database to a data warehouse. It may seem like a lot but that's actually very little criticism for such a large textbook. Between this thing and some exercises on Khan Academy you could almost teach yourself.

Good intro book for database design
I think the first few chapters were the most important. Really goes into detail about the entity relational model, and ERD diagrams.
