they definitely crumble into a powder at the base of the paper trees they grew on they're not long lasting crystals like I had when I was a kid, but they are amazing to watch grow (and you CAN watch them grow, it's THAT fast). instant satisfaction for a younger child, vs the set and leave it for a month of the old time crystal growing kits.
