useless
I was searching for a new book, author and style.I was ready for something new because really all the popular writers are writing pretty much the same stuff right now. I have to say this book is a let down. I couldn't really finish it without wishing it would come to an end or wanting to peak ahead ( to avoid bordem). The same style as everyone else is using these days. In the beginning she was jumping back and forth so much and what was supposed to be funny became quickly boring and confusing. I GOT IT THE FIRS TIME that this heroine was not thinking of herself as a person that fit in and dressed appropreate.Sure some of the little moments were cute because as a mom of two little kids I could related to the moments of crazyness. But this write goes on and on, pages full of how she is not like the others and it makes her look more incapable with each page verses funny or entertaining. Also, when I read a book in this catagory I want to escape from the real world and enjoy some fun time. Here and many other writers do it as well these days, the author makes sure that on several ocassions the ( perhaps her own ) political preferrance is mentioned and snug in.I don't care what your believe is what party should be guiding this country but come on... can I read this book without feeling that again someones opinion is shuffed in my face?It just doesn't belong here. And it takes you out of the story like so many other faux paws she has. The heroine sits at the police office after she had found her neighbor stabbed to death on the floor. What does she do? She cracks jokes and is a smart a...!Now, she does mention that this heroine tends to crack jokes when she is under stress.. that is good and makes it more believable.. but come on.. the stuff she does say is unbelievable and just strange. Then the end. Well I can't write about it because you may decide to read it..but what a let down.It really doesn't make me want to go and buy another book.It is as if half way through the book, perhaps even after chapter 1/2 the air went out of the authors pen.I mean. it is dragging adn stringing along and so predictable.Nothing really fun or exclusive. ALl has been there and done that.Perhaps the only difference is that in the end she is not making believe that the marriage issues are okay and will be fine but that there is a lot the heroine has to work through. Now that is realistic and a change from the novels that usually always make up after a disagreement and then everything is okay.It takes you by surprise but because of the mess and the back and forth and the entire useless story/ book, you can't even feel to sympathetic for this character and you sort of nod your head in acceptance and are glad the book is over.Guess it is obvious this is not my favorite book.IT is hard to write, explain without giving the story away.I don't like to do taht. It is up to you to decide if you want to read this. But to me it is a waste of money and time.SorryNothing new here, nothing fresh or even entertaining.Very confusing style and over and over the same.Either the author had a deadline to fill or tried to write a book with the style that worked the first book but now she is stuck adn can't advance it.Hope that helps.

I hate to say it...but maybe a break is in order
I discovered Good in Bed on my honeymoon (much to my husband's chagrin) and then immediately picked up In Her Shoes (decided to wait until it came out on DVD to buy, so haven't seen the movie yet). Had to wait a while for Little Earthquakes and didn't like it that much, but I think I liked this one even less. I know they always tell you to write about what you know, but I am tired of reading about babies and lousy marriages, etc. These last two books have all been about her life after the baby (maybe not her life exactly, I am sure a lot of it is taken from others stories of their pathetic lifes), but if I want to read a book about babies, I will go buy Dr. Spock. I bought Weiner books, because she was the queen of chick lit, but I think she has handed in her thrown for some baby wipes. I, like other posters, loved her first two books, but maybe she needs to take a break, even her blog has gotten a bit too whiney, not enough posts, and the posts that she does write, aren't written with the same wit she used to have. I know fans will still read it, and most likely buy it like me, but if you can, get from a discount store.

good bedtime reading
Like all of Jennifer Weiner's books, this one has all the elements necessary to keep the reader entertained and interested. The heroine, Kate, is a suburban mom who never intended to be one and her experience with investigation occurs when she has time and her little ones are in preschool. What sets Jennifer Weiner's books apart from the average suburban mom detective genre is her portrayal of Kate's inner life as well as her realistic depiction of the drudgery and frustration stay at home moms can face when their children are very small and utterly dependent. Sometimes it's hilarious and sometimes it's heartbreaking, but it always makes good reading. The mystery is very good and Kate follows her leads in a realistic and entertaining way. The suspense builds well to the ending, and the crime, as well as its perpetrator, is presented in a novel and surprising way.All in all, very well done.

Calling Susan Isaacs
Goodnight Nobody reminded me of Susan Isaac's wonderful first novel Compromising Postitions. I'd give Compromising Positions 5 stars, and although I enjoyed Jennifer Weiner's latest novel, I gave it just 4 stars. As usual the characters are great, especially best friend Janie. I felt the plot became too convoluted near the end and I found myself flipping back through the book to try and keep the characters and the timeline straight.Yes, the main character's indecision at the end leaves the reader wondering, but that didn't bother me. Susan Isaacs did the same thing in her novel and she did write a sequel. Maybe Ms. Weiner will write a sequel as well. I hope so, if only to revisit these characters.

Goodnight nobody
