Or so the moment went in "The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe" (I paraphrase). How sad that we Americans have overlooked a homegrown brand, from the great state of Washington, that makes Turkish Delight out of Washington apple pectin. No need to lug home boxes of the candy from London, where it is sold as a gourmet treat in High Street shops especially at Christmas. We have it right here. Aplets and Cotlets are Turkish Delight, so are all of Liberty Orchards' other flavors. They just never really dared to call it T.D. because not everyone went to Narnia. According to Liberty Orchands' website, the candy factory was founded by immigrants over 100 years ago who tried to recreate the candy of their childhood. The brand is now in foreign hands, but while they are still making this candy Stateside, try it. As for the taste - it's less sickly sweet than mainstream Turkish Delight, and the slight crunch of nuts stop it from being overly cloying. In short, it's a pretty darn good box that might have caused Edmund to never come home from Narnia.

Applets and Cotlets were the original Turkish delight made from eastern Washington Apples, and Apricots I presume are from the same region. After eating them on a backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada in the late seventies, I did other things and didn’t notice their availability or lack thereof for almost 50 years. I am happy to say they taste as good as they did 48 years ago. Sweet but not too sweet, you won’t feel like you’re eating out of the sugar bowl. Excellent texture, freshness, and presumably the same recipe as always. ***** five stars.

These are delicious! The soft, chewy texture and bright fruit-and-nut flavor so good. I love that they’re made with simple, plant-based ingredients and without any artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. Plus, being vegan and Kosher means I can share them with everyone. I remember only being able to buy them around Christmas, and could never understand that because I think they are SO delicious; I highly recommend if you haven't tried them. They arrived on time, and are fresh! The only thing I would change: Have them available separately, I would LOVE to have a box of just Cotlets, even though I like the Applets, too.
