Highly recommend
Excellent book! My daughter was extremely interested in it. We bought this book, as well as the books on Henry VIII, the Tower of London and Queen Victoria from the same series, in advance of a trip to the UK. My daughter especially enjoyed this book on Elizabeth I and the one on Henry VIII. They imparted a lot of information yet were written in the form of the story that kept my daughters attention. I was pleasantly surprised at how much she learned and retained from these books.

Great for even younger enthusiasts
I'm baffled by some comments made here by people who are disappointed that this is a children's book. "Age Range: 8 - 12 years" is clearly listed in the details listed for the book.My daughter is 5 1/2 -- too young for this book, you would think, but she stumbled onto Queen Elizabeth in one of my history magazines and began peppering me with loads of questions about her. Finally I bought and read this book aloud to my daughter, and she adores it! We must be into our third or fourth reading of it now, and her curiosity continues. That's not to detract from the age range recommendation; I think an 8-year-old would respond well to this book. The fact that it actually appeals to a 5-year-old is proof of the strong storytelling in this narrative, I think. Well done!

Great for the classroom
I used this book for students to study a person in history to write a report on. This was for a 4th grade classroom. Each student read the novel on their own and filled out a novel study that I created for non-fiction books. Students were able to follow the book with ease and understand what they were reading. There were several pictures to aid in understanding. There is also a timeline that helps students understand the timeline of events as they read. Very great resource.

...to โwear a crown is more glorious to them that see it than it is a pleasure to them that bear it.
Elizabeth I understood how grand her life appeared from the outside -- she had wealth and luxuries compared to the average citizen, but her life had struggles and weights many may not have recognized or seen. Her father ignored her, he wanted a boy, her mother died when she was 3. Her younger brother became King as a child, died before reaching 21, and not long afterwards Elizabeth's half sister had her imprisoned -- she was a threat to the new Queen by merely existing. This book does a wonderful job walking through the complex life of a girl who didn't expect to be Queen, but truly owned the job when it became hers.I read it just a week after the Coronation of King Charles III, and it is interesting to read about Elizabeth I Coronation, also at Westminster Abbey, and her portrait with the Scepter and Sphere.

Fantastic!
I bought the kindle edition for my daughter (10 years) for a book report. She read the 1st 80 pages before bed, and repeatedly kept running up to me giving me information about Queen Elizabeth. By the time she got home today from school, she was finished with it. She loved it! And it kept her reading all the way through. Fastest she has every read a book, and the most info she has ever been able to recall! Highly recommend!

My daughter loved this book
My daughter loved this book...Though I suspect, when we ordered it, she still thought the book would be about Queen Elizabeth II, she thoroughly enjoyed this look back to the sixteenth century. So much so, one evening, after we put her to bed, she continued reading (a nightly ritual in our house) for longer than usual to 'finish the story.' My wife and I sort of forgot about her, and found her still reading after 11! This whole series is great fun - I recommend them to anyone with a youngster curious about history and prominent figures. There are just enough challenging words to stretch a young reader's skill without frustrating them and so many teachable moments for a parent. Also, the periodic vignettes provide a built-in way for parent and child to take turns if desired.

Great for Children
My daughter had to do a project on a biography of a woman who changed the world. She thought this book gave good information and kept her engaged. This book is a great biography of Queen Elizabeth I for children. If you are looking for a fantastic biography for children or just want a cool & different book to read, you should try it! ๐

Rich, accessible and fun!
What a fantastic introduction to Queen Elizabeth for children! My daughter was fascinated by the story and even interjected with side comments (โi donโt think anyone else should marry that king!โ :)). I was very impressed with how history was brought to life and how richly the life of Queen Elizabeth was described in such an accessible book. I look forward to reading more from the author!
