Tramp's Footprints: The History of Supertramp

Having previously only glanced through it, I have now started at the beginning and already have learned a ton of stuff I never knew about Supertramp. I can see that this is a tour de force of a biography, I commend author's diligence and attention to detail while simultaneously providing a great read. This is a story that quite possibly could have never been really told. We can all be grateful that Abel Fuentes has been able to so brilliantly document it for posterity.

what an excellent book. As a big Supertramp fan I've loved re-living and joining in the journey from their beginnings through their whole career. Those reading the English version need to remember it was translated from its original Spanish, but even so, it is extremely well written, easy to follow. The book includes loads of information you wouldn't have known, many interviews with the band, crew, and many people who collaborated with, or knew Supertramp well. It is HUGE, and I will definitely read it a few times, as it is written like a well-crafted Album that needs to be listened to over and over to appreciate it as a whole.

This huge tome is such an eye-opener and I have been a massive fan since 1975 when I was 9, and there are things in this book that I never knew. Love the way it is laid out, brings back memories of many happy times. For any fan or someone who is interested in music this is a very good read. Abel you are a great writer and thank you for fantastic read.

This book is a must have for any die hard supertramp fan , from its early beginnings of all the members to international stardom . Great photos , very informative over the good and hard times and heart felt comments from all . A mass of information to take in and a real job to put the book down, all in all a great read

I bought this book last year purely because there is no other well written and detailed book that traces every detail about the band the tours the members and more so detailed account of each album interesting recording facts around the time of the 1970 debut - it's a 700 plus page bible on supertramp - it's an absolute must have if you are a true fan.

I had been waiting for this book to come out in English for sometime,I had seen it was available in Spanish but not English, but yes well worth the wait.So informative so many stories going right back to the forming of the band and the early days the full history of a great British band,my advice buy it !! Great read.

Having had the pleasure of working with the band back in the early 80's and the pleasure of watching the show in Paris the book gives you a good understanding to how it all began and how they develop there rise to fame .

Supertramp have always been short of a good biography/ history and this fills that gap. Well written, good research, nice balance of contributions from the ‘five’ with less from the two pre “Crime” line ups. Wish there was more from the great Rick Davies, but he has always seemed reticent / shy. Thankfully the author doesn’t allow egoist Roger Hodgson to dominate.

A lot of care has gone into this detailed, if very linear history of Supertramp, a band who were once the biggest on the planet. Somehow, they dropped out of mainstream view despite their hits being featured on every “Classic Rock” playlist out there, staying out of the spotlight of the mainstream English language legacy music press, which over the past couple of decades doesn’t seem to have much desire to cover them. From that point of view, this book is to be welcomed as the research and information collated is superb, exhaustive and it’s the only historical overview of the band in print. For that, 5 stars, 10 out of 10! However, I wish, oh how I wish, the author and original publisher had invested in a copyeditor whose first language is English to oversee this English language edition of the book. (The original edition is in Spanish.) There are many strange, unwieldy turns of phrase, clunky translation glitches as well as straightforward typos, which all sometimes serve to zap the reader out of immersion in the book. Many passages would’ve benefitted from such an editorial polish to make it flow better. That said, you do get used to this idiosyncratic writing style, and it’s impossible not to get caught up in Abel Fuentes’ enthusiasm for his favorite band. There’s not a great deal of analysis, but that’s part of the appeal - Fuentes always lets the band members and the main support players tell their own stories - and it’s very satisfying to see all these little anecdotes expanded upon and collected under one cover. Expect no tales of rock ‘n’ roll excess, but plenty of passive-aggressive internecine warfare that partially explains the band’s tendency to stray out of the limelight. But then, Supertramp, part-pop, part-prog, were always an introvert’s band, thoughtful, wistful, classy, and, as it turns out, one that created a catalogue of timeless classics - all the stuff you may know and plenty you don’t, especially regarding various solo careers (Go see what the wonderful Mr John Anthony Helliwell has been up to outside of the band. What a career). I hope this book is the beginning of a wide and well-deserved reappraisal and celebration of their work. For the longtime Supertramp fan, this is an absolutely essential purchase.

La bibbia per chi ama i supertramp. Un gruppo unico, irripetibile e inimitabile che purtroppo, anche a causa di alcune vicissitudini interne, ha vissuto una sola splendida stagione e, contrariamente ad altri vecchi "dinosauri" non hanno mai deciso di tornare insieme (purtroppo)... non solo, anche le iniziative dei membri per tenere vivo il ricordo e il merchandising sono veramente ridotte all'osso. Ma il bravissimo Abel Fuentes, dopo anni e anni di passione e interviste, è riuscito laddove nemmeno i supertramp hanno mai osato: creare una testimonianza meravigliosa della storia del gruppo... e tutto per passione ed amore verso i fans sparsi in tutto il mondo (siamo tantissimi...e se non fosse per Facebook ognuno penserebbe di essere una eccezione). Il libro è scritto in inglese (esiste anche una versione originale in spagnolo) e chiunque, con un minimo di conoscenza della lingua e buona volontà, può leggerlo perché è scritto in modo molto facile e si fa leggere con piacere. c'è una ricca sezione di immagini (purtroppo nella versione di Amazon solo in b/n) e migliaia di aneddoti interessantissimi. È il miglior acquisto che un fan possa fare. Consigliatissimo

I ordered History Of Tramps back in November 2021. I finally was able to find time to start reading it, and I haven't put it down since. I've been a lifelong die hard Supertramp fan. This book is well detailed, well written, and the chapters flow together. This is a must read for all Supertramp fans, and classic rock fans. Thanks Abel
