Good read, may need a little guidance from an educator
We are parents of a 3 year old on the spectrum. His summer school teacher recommended we get this book. I will say that it has a lot of good information; however, it feels more geared towards teachers/educators. There are parts of the book that seem to be geared for those who have taken courses in early intervention education. Not saying it’s not worth it to buy, you just may want to pick your kids teachers brain a bit in some areas here or there in the chapters.

Great Autism Reference Book
Autism assistance that really helps teachers and parents help the child. I thought it was very well planned out, covered a lot of hot topics for most students with autism and their parents in a very understandable and helpful format. It is a big book with lots of white space (for notes or just so it does not look so overwhelming). This book was highly recommended to me by autism specialists and I in turn have found it very helpful and highly recommend it for parents, students aspiring to go into special education, and education professionals in the trenches.

Life Changing!
This book is life changing!!! As a parent of a 4-year-old daughter with Autism - I have read this book and all of the books by these authors - they are invaluable - they give you the tools you need to teach your child, understand the process, and communicate with your childs' therapists. ABA is the only research proven method out there and it is a shame that more people aren't aware of the resources they should be using. School districts often provide minimal eclectic programs that are ineffective. Regional centers notoriously lie about services your child needs or qualifies to recieve - these are the first people I've worked with - attended their workshops- and learned their ABA - that get it right - if only everyone had the opportunity to learn from them - more kids would make better progress. This is powerful teaching and learning - I've worked at Harvard Business Schools' Executive Education Programs and I've seen a variety of teaching in my life thus far - this stuff works!

Excellent ABA Manual - Written with both parents and ABA professionals in mind
We were referred to this book when we'd asked an experienced ABA therapist if there was a "how to" manual out there that listed what had been taught to the children in the original UCLA Young Autism Project. While this book doesn't list granular specifics of the UCLA study, nor is it affiliated with it (one of the authors played a significant role in the study however, John McEachin), it does list out which ABA programs should be taught to a child on the Spectrum and more importantly, it lists the sequence in which those programs should be taught. Many of the programs detailed lead into, or are pre-requisites for, programs that are taught later on in the book. The book is really useful and well worth the money for multiple reasons. It can be referenced and easily comprehended by parents, who want to implement some of the ABA programs themselves, and also, it can be leveraged by parents so that they can ask informed questions of their professional ABA provider. In addition to providing an ABA curriculum, the book also discusses disruptive behaviors, self-stimulatory behaviors, sleep problems and toilet training; all of which are explained in chapters that are well written and easy to comprehend. There's a reason that this book is one of the biggest sellers in the Autism community.

Practical, Informative & Accurate
This book is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to set up formal ABA programming for their child or for anyone who wants to understand the steps of development in specific areas such as making conversation, understanding the difference between yes/no and learning how to read. I found the checklists at the back of the book to be the most helpful. I have had extensive training (as a parent) in ABA principles and Discrete Trial Training procedures and I found that this book was accurate and gave the right amount of detail when I wanted to set up my own programs to be implemented in my home.

Wonderful guide!
I don't often leave reviews; but when I come across a product that has helped me with my 5 year old son who has autism than I like to share my thoughts. I'm very MUCH involved (as are most parents) with my sons therapy and progress. I tend to be a very organized, planned out kind of person and this book really keeps me on track and guides me to know what to work on first and when to move on to the next level of difficulty. Don't be swayed by the handful of negative reviews; it's an awesome book and I give a big thank you to the people who wrote this and made it available.

Just what I needed
Right after I got the autism diagnosis for my son I realized that behavioral therapy would be our main focus of treatment and due to financial constraints, I would be the primary therapist. After reading some really heady and intellectual literature on behavioral therapy I just wanted to scream, "Yes, I know, but tell me what to do!!"A Work in Progress does just that. It is simply written and easy to use. Look up the behavior you wish to address in the table of contents, turn to the indicated page, and there, clearly written is a step-by-step plan. Brilliant. Just what we needed.

Livro perfeito!
Mesmo sendo em inglês, se tiver uma noção básica dá super para compreender. Apesar de não ser um livro tão recente, o conhecimento é válido.
