Almost a star for every stitch!
I need to update this review once I've used it on something besides my hand, but I can definitely attest that this knife is EXTREMELY sharp.Of concern is the packaging -- inside the lovely box the knife comes in is a very thin plastic slip (it's not a true sheathe) over the blade. The blade can and will easily slice through the plastic as well through your fingers. Be extremely careful unboxing the knife. I highly recommend buying a proper sheath for the knife as it is too sharp to casually lay in a drawer or anything like that.On the upside, it cut my fingers extremely cleanly and sharp enough that even through the plastic I needed six stitches. I'll update my review once I use it on something non-human, but after my hospital trip the knife seems promising.

Improved my knife skills
This is a great knife. It is sharp and retains it sharpness well. My knife skills have gotten much better and I spend less time chopping things when using this knife. It is well balanced, fits in my hand well, and goes through things smoothly and effortlessly. That has allowed me to chop like a pro. I have other high-end knifes but this is the one that has let out my inner chef. The size is perfect for most jobs.

Careful
The knife does the job, very prone to chips and the tip chipped after about a month of use.

It's a knife
Great kitchen knife. Very nice looking damascus blade is very sharp and will cut through anything. The wooden handle is D shaped and very comfortable to use for anything you need cut for any amount of time. The blade it self is very thin and will bend if not careful. If your serious or passionate about cooking or really like fine cutlery this is the knife to get.

Nice knife but I think there are better options out there
Purchased this for my mother and she loves the knife. I bought this particular knife because the description says its made in Japan. However this is not stamped anywhere on the blade, so I'm not 100% convinced. The packaging was definitely not up to Japanese standards which is why I question its origin. In hindsight I probably would've gone with one of the Dalstrong knives that is made in China. In addition to more layers of steel (which I assume yields a stronger blade) the Dalstrong includes a nice sheath for the blade along with better packaging and a lifetime warranty. I didn't seen anything mentioned about a warranty for this Gougiri knife.

Don't cut off your fingers
I was dubious, and I bought this as a gift until this knife was in action. And I kept it. DO NOT USE it to chop or twist. It is a fine slicing device hammered and folded 1000 times with the souls of dead samurai. Proper sharpening and maintenance research is also a must if you want this thing to remain the top end tool it is. I'm not a bot, and a horrible amateur chef. I can only say this was amazing for the price. Be aware that if you're a lefty like me, the grind is for a righty. Easily honed with a whetstone.

great knives
LOVE them. These two knives cover just about all of my cutting needs. Easy to hold. I was worried about paying so much for just two knives but have no regrets at all and would highly recommend these knives to your average home cook.
