The International Cookbook for Kids

I could not decide between  The International Cookbook for Kids  and  Emeril's There's a Chef in My World!: Recipes That Take You Places , so I ordered both of them and am very glad that I did.Locricchio does a bang-up job of introducing youngsters to the Big 4 cuisines of the world (French, Italian, Chinese & Mexican) while teaching children excellent foundation skills that will last them their entire lives. You won't find canned broth or bouillon cubes in The International Cookbook for Kids. Locricchio teaches them to make a variety of base stocks from scratch. You will find no mixes and no prepared foods here, just real food for real kids, heavy on the veggies and very light on the snack material.Emeril ranges further afield and includes foods from most regions of the world. He emphasizes good taste and uses a variety of cooking techniques. Nearly all of Emeril's recipes are things that I have been making myself for years and most of his recipes are so close to mine that I know they're good.You can't go wrong with either book. Better yet, do as I did and just buy both.Note: Neither of these books are suitable for the 4-8 age group as specified in the publication details.

I bought this book for my 12 year old daughter, whose been wanting to learn how to cook, along with a children's knife set. This book is AWESOME. Every meal that she's picked to make has come out delicious. The ingredients are very basic ingredients that you can find in your local grocery store, and the ingredient list isn't long or too involved. They also aren't ingredients that you'll use once and never need again; most of them you'll probably already have in your pantry.We also have dietary issues (Celiacs and lactose allergy) and we are able to substitute if needed and the meals still taste great! We also never have leftovers as everyone goes back for seconds.I HIGHLY recommend this book to any new chef. I cannot wait to pickup the 2nd edition once it's available.Tonight she made a pork and potato dish all on her own (my 19yr old supervised) and did an amazing job.

I bought this as a Christmas present for the daughter of a friend and it was a resounding success.Full disclosure: I wasn't able to get together with the family until a couple of months into the pandemic.According to my friend, the little girl started cooking from her present right away and just loves it. The family has been enjoying the recipes immensely.My only dilemma is how to top this present next time. Is there a volume 2?

The author has the kiddos deep-frying, mincing ginger, using a hot wok, adding ingredients like capers and expensive cheeses, making a bouquet garni,  deseeding chiles, and cooking fresh swordfish! I was shaking my head in disbelief. Ha ha. Most of the things in this book I would not have taken on when I was first learning to cook as an adult. Plus, when my son was young if there was deep frying and hot woks being used he wasn't allowed near the stove!Two of the desserts are custard tarts, and cream puffs. Those are not easy to pull off for adults! Kids will hate cooking and baking if they fail at reproducing the recipes. They will also not be motivated if the food is not something they would be interested in eating.This is an adult cookbook that is being passed off as a kids' cookbook by putting a picture index of cooking tools in the back, adding some history factlets, and throwing in a couple of easy recipes here and there, like the "French" ham and cheese sandwich that was made "French" by using gruyère cheese. That one made me chuckle.The only reason I gave it two stars, instead of one, is for $1.00 it is an okay cookbook in general. I would not pay more than that, though. I bought this to use as a kid's cooking review for my Children's book blog, but as you can tell, I was seriously disappointed.

Cooking

Actually, I'm not so sure that it should have "for Kids" in the title. We are using it for two teenagers in our house and we wish it didn't have "for kids" on the title. Plus, some of the recipes seem to be way too advanced for kids. We're enjoying the recipes and plan to go through one a day until we finish the book. Most of the recipes are delicious and our girls are trying new flavors. New techniques are coming up like de-veining shrimp. We augment the book with YouTube cooking techniques.

My daughter and I love to cook, but she doesn't like to try new things. (She's 9!) I decided to buy this book for her as a Christmas gift to match her "International" bedroom theme. She absolutely LOVES the cookbook and finds the recipes fascinating. Last weekend we made a whole Asian dinner with Hot and Sour Soup and Fried Rice. She ate the soup everyday for lunch! For Superbowl this weekend she wants to do Mexican! It makes trying new foods fun and exciting!

I like the way the cover opens all the way on this so it can lay flat while you look at the recipes. The hardcover is good quality and the photos are beautiful. The directions are clearly laid out for the recipes. As with any international cookbook, you may need to go to an intenational market to get some of the needed ingredients. This was a gift for a friend of my son's who, now in 3rd grade, aspires to be a chef. It was not that expensive, yet a quality piece to give as a gift.

I bought this as an exciting addition to the world geography book pile of our homeschool, but I was disappointed. It is OLD. The pictures are very outraged, I find it off putting and I already know I won't cook anything from it.Another thing, I must have misunderstood, but I didn't realise only 4 countries would be featured (Mexico, Italy, China and France) I am Italian, born and raised in Italy from Italian parents, I lived there until adulthood and I am feeling very "MEH" about some of the Italian recipes with regards to authenticity (maybe Italian American... but not Italian Italian!)

Gute und abwechslungsreiche Rezepte. Nicht zu schwierig und gut beschrieben (auch Bilder). War ein Geschenk und kam gut an. Wenn ich mich richtig erinnere gab es Hintergrund information zu den Gerichten.

Lots of recipes in the book aren’t really kid friendly foods and the pictures they put in for examples are the opposite of appetizing. When I asked my niece if we should try a recipe she couldn’t pick one out as they all looked “gross” to her.

I like it. The book has easy recipes for kids
