In short it's a first class instrument.It is a precision instrument that requires some care, not for most kids usually, but is built to last a long time.It works well on any flat surface with marine and aviation charts, land maps, orienteering, compass work, surveying. Or at home drawing anything from house plans to a kid's toy box.CAD, on the computer has taken control of drawing plans, to the benefit of all of us. But there are times when the computer may not be the best solution. Or it's handier to do the work by hand. Or, uuuh, there are some people less skilled in CAD....

I have never had a bad experience with Weems & Path gear. If I ever need nav-gear / chart plotting gear, W & P is my go-to brand.

It looks and works well. A little too long for the small booklet charts used for coastal navigation. A 12 inch arm model would have been a better choice if available.

Nice and sturdy and very well built. The brass adds a little old school appeal.

Easy to move the parallel rulers. Precise measurements.
