After checking the reviews here, I took a chance and bought this because I needed a quick garlic peeler. I cook most of our meals at home because we are frugal and also want to control the ingredients in our food. For anyone deterred by the negative reviews here, let me say that this garlic peeler is very effective. The peels will detach if correct pressure is applied. At times, a fragment may remain, but it's easy to take off. No problem with washing either; just drip a bit of detergent inside, squeeze the tube together with a brisk massage, and rinse. (I haven't needed to use the dishwasher.) I'm glad I bought this peeler and highly recommend it.

When I saw that my mother-in-law was peeling garlic by hand, painfully because of arthritis in her hands, I ordered one of these on the spot. I always use one like this just because it is so much faster and easier than any other method I’ve tried (Martha Stewart - your two bowls trick never worked for me!). My mom was able to try it it the next day and LOVED IT. Stopped in the middle of making dinner to buy some for everyone in her family. She couldn’t believe there was something to make peeling garlic this easy and she’d never heard if it before. Just get it! Tryst me. These things are pretty inexpensive, easy to care for, and last forever.

I hate peeling garlic. And I’ve never had a garlic press that handles unpeeled garlic well, and you’re stuck with whatever the garlic press puts out anyway. So I picked this cheap little guy up, since there wasn’t much on the line if it didn’t work. Well, it worked just fine! I’ve both rolled it on the counter and between my hands (careful your little garlics don’t fall out) and the skins came off perfectly. Trim the stem off for best results, and it works best on garlic with drier skins. If you’re going to crush or turn your garlic into a paste, though, it might be easier to just smash the clove to get the skins off.

A handy little gadget to have in the kitchen 'arsenal' It works pretty well and it's fairly easy to take the 'paper' off once it is loosened and trim the top of the clove. A lot easier than doing all that work with a paring knife. Faster too, as I usually do a couple of heads at a time then put them through my mini food processor. Having a jar of minced garlic on hand in the fridge is nice as we do like to add it to our cooking.

Maybe it's my fault for expecting top-notch performance from such a low-cost item. But I've had garlic peelers like this one in the past and they were much easier, more reliable, and more effective than this one. When I use this peeler, I put the garlic in and then roll it in my hand just like you're supposed to do. The problem is that the peeler ends up getting folded up around the garlic, which takes away the slack around the garlic that allows the peeler to grip and remove the skin. I think the issue might be that this peeler's rubber is just too thin and folds too easily. You have to use VERY large cloves for this to not happen, but in my experience, bulbs of garlic are only about 1/3 large cloves and the rest are relatively small. Given that I have experience with similar peelers in the past, I can't say I'm sure impressed by this one. I guess it'll do in a pinch, but thankfully, my garlic press can press garlic whether it's peeled or unpeeled.

I gave a bad review earlier, it didn't work for me at first . Weeks later I tried again, it worked with this technique: First, pound down on a bulb of garlic to bust it up. Take one, two or three cloves and them put into the mid section of the red Xyliss garlic peeler tube. Then open your palm and place it on top of the red tube sitting on the counter. ROLL the tube it away from you and back as you PUSH DOWN on the tube. It takes some pressure to get it to work, and you need to roll at least 3-4 times. Shake out the peeled cloves and skins.

from a brand name, very disanointing. I have a 20 year old peeler that works perfectly. This new one is thing and does not work on 1/2 of the cloves. I am hoping it is a counterfeit item and not really from Zyliss. Do not buy

Didn't know if this would work, but it was worth trying since pealing garlic is not my favorite thing to do. This thing works perfect - made of silicone, it washes so easy ... I just rinse it under hot water. Put 2 pieces of garlic inside and roll this sleeve on the counter-top back and forth = done Great little gadget.

Having tried several garlic clove peelers over the years, this one has been very good. It is early days since it arrived but so far it lives up to expectations.
