Essential Travel & Home Safety – Reliable Carbon Monoxide Protection Anywhere!
We never travel without this carbon monoxide detector! Most places we stay don’t have one, so we always bring our own. On our Leopard 40 catamaran, we keep one in every cabin plus the salon and galley, and we also take one along when staying in Airbnb or Vrbo rentals. The one time we didn’t bring it was while hiking Acatenango in Guatemala. After a 7-hour climb to base camp, we were freezing and exhausted when our guide lit a fire. Smoke filled the tiny hut and we woke up with splitting headaches -classic carbon monoxide exposure. That scary moment taught us a lesson: no matter where we go, even up a mountain, this detector comes with us. The battery lasts a long time, the digital temperature display is a great bonus, and the alarm is loud enough to wake you immediately. Durable, reliable, and truly a must have for safety at home, on a boat, or while traveling. Highly recommend!

Battery never needs changing!
There are no 9V batteries to replace with this unit. It is rated to work for 10 years without a battery change. You will save a lot of time and money by not having to put in a new battery each year. In addition, it has a temperature display built in. This is very handy if, for example, you put this in a spare bedroom that is not heated all the time and you want to check the temperature.

Nice self contained unit
Nice little detector. I have mine on a shelf. Since, I have not had a CO leak, thank god, then I can't say much about how good it is as a detector. But, it is a one time use unit. Once the battery dies, the detector is also dead. That is a good thing! In my older detectors, the 9 volt that powers them in a power failure, needs to be replaced every year or two. That process in older style First Alerts is annoying as the battery door is awful and the alarm sounds when you unplug it. Dangerous for your hearing! I think this is the way to go. One battery. Lasts the life of the alarm. Replace whole unit when it shows battery is low. With these toss when done units, manufactures should also include or let you get, a free shipping label to send it back for proper recycling. Also, maybe offer a slide out unit. Keep the old case, they will send you new sensor guts you slide back in for a cheap price. The next step is to make these for the same price but make them smart home/HomeKit ready. Alarm app on your iPhone/device alerts you when it detects CO if you are home or not. When battery is near dead, sends an alert. Could be good. I have those alerts NOW with my EVE system for temp, movement, air quality. I would also like to see a combo CO and natural gas alarm in one unit. I like separate smoke/fire alarms from CO as that creates a natural redundancy to all alarms should just one battery die, it only hurts one type of detector.

very simple to use
Very simple: unpackage, press the button, place on table or desk.

Accurate thermometer - just takes a while.
A lot of people were complaining about the thermometer feature on this thing being inaccurate. It was certainly higher than it should’ve been when I first unboxed it, but sitting in my room for a day it’s now showing the exact same temperature as my thermostat. Not an instant read thermometer by any means, I put it above a stove and it took at least 30-40 seconds to climb up just one degree. But from my experience it’s certainly accurate enough. Oh yeah, and it’s probably a great CO detector too. Plenty loud for sure.

Worth Every Penny
Simple to install, works extremely well and the size fits almost anywhere. If something saves your life, is it a good value for the money, you bet it is! Peace of mind enough to move into a place without Carbon Monoxide threat. It's a bonus that it's also a room thermometer.

First Alert quality at a reasonable price for a CO Alarm
For the last 5 years, I have had a First Alert CO monitor near my gas fireplace. Nice to have the temperature showing in large display as well. When the alarm sounded to indicate my monitor was at the end of its life, I looked for a replacement. The upgraded/repackaged First Alert CO monitor on Amazon was the best choice for me; I'm still able to see the temperature in large numbers, with confidence that this monitor will warn me if we have a CO issue in my home.
