We ordered this little guy for a secondary system we have. I knew nothing about Rockville and went strictly by other buyers' comments. It came packed insanely, reassuringly well, double-boxed with stiff foam corner inserts, that alone was a positive first impression. As we pulled it from the plastic bagging it was finished very nicely and was of obvious good quality. That impression went to the rear panel, where all the inputs, binding wires and controls seemed durable and of high quality, the rotating controls are quite smooth and not 'cheap feeling' at all. Hooking it to my system took a bit of research, as my older Sherwood receiver does not have separate subwoofer "RCA" outputs. A quick search on You Tube resolved that issue and I found that hooking this sub up as a second set of speakers was the best solution for my application. Yes, that rquired a bit more fuss and wiring, but it paid off, now the balance of the woofer is in step with my primary speakers. It sounds great, plays cleanly and shockingly low, and it takes an organ pedal note in stride, not what I expected from one 8" driver. It takes all you can give it! The cabinet is slightly larger (deeper) than I anticipated, but it fits nicely on the shelf beside my other speakers. So far I'm quite surprised and happy with this speaker! To me it's a bargain and a good value.

I would consider myself a cost-effective audiophile, and therefore consider this a great value. The Rock Shaker 10 provides a lot of bass that you really feel in your chest. If the price was higher ($145 in 2025), then maybe I would consider taking a star for the bass being a bit loose. By the way, studio quality powered subs start at $200, use a smaller woofer and won't pack as much punch, but they will be cleaner, so you have to consider what matters most to you and your budget. It has gain and low pass filter knobs to get the sound just the way you need it in your setup. It can take rca or speaker wire and pass the raw signal to another amp or speaker. In fact, I'm writing this review as I am considering adding another one in the same basement to add another 300W RMS on the opposite wall using the rca outputs to help fill the 30'x30' space. In a smaller room, you wouldn't need another. This sub WILL shake your room and you'll have rattles in the floor above at even setting the gain at 50%. I highly recommend this powered sub!
