In one question/answer, it was stated that this item should not be placed directly on a stovetop burner; how is the water heated?

You want your water temp. about 200 deg. I boil the water in a pot and then wait about a min. and then pour into the french press. You could also boil the water in the microwave.

Can you tell me how tall this is? The product description says 6x4x4 but that doesn't sound right for a 34oz capacity press. Thank you.

The product is larger than expected 10 inches tall including the metal tip on top.

Your filtration is going to depend on several things: And 100% on the filtration you choose as well as how your coffee is chosen. I buy fresh beans which are ground to my various coffee presses. At speciality stores beans are more expensive but very fresh, and usually available at good grocers where you still need to know how they care for their beans and do they keep those Holders/grinders really cleaned. Do they have the date the beans were put into the holder so you know? If not, ask or don’t buy that particular bean, You need to know how long it sat out, is it put away in a cool, safe place when not out. So at home, does your pot have its own built in filter, mine does, my first one did not and results were “iffy” So find your best bean favorite and use your own fresh bought beans THEN get the best grinder you can afford...these things last a very very long time when properly cleaned and stored when not in use. Don’t let anything sit in them after serving & drinking the coffee! Clean and put in safe DRY special place. Do Not Clean with Soaps! Rinse with very Hot water and use strong Cotton Towels to completely dry & remove any residue of used beans... This will give your Press Lasting & Longevity. So, perfect coffee IS a LOT of WORK. I enjoy the process as much as the treat of my own perfect, truly FRESH COFFEE... my friends all agree when we get together. It’s been a long time since we used a “plug-in” coffee pot.

I bought this French Press about a year ago. I Love this Press. I have made tea, hot chocolate and coffee, It is made of good quality SS. I would buy again if this one ever broke. They sell the mesh if needed new one. The important thing is that you wait the 5 minutes to press because it will spill hot coffee on you if you’re not careful. You have to hold cover while pushing down on lever slowly, It took me a minute to be patient. I love my press. I only use my electric coffee mate if more people come visit,
