J.J McAvoy is becoming a quick favorite author!
That moment in movies and TV shows someone interrupts a wedding to proclaim their undying for the bride or the groom are always the most swoon worthy moments. We as the audience tend to be swept up in the moment and never think about the person left behindThat Thing Between Eli and Gwen actually focuses on two people that get left behind and we get to see their journey through that. Eli and Gwen couldn't be more different and it's so interesting to see how such different people could have dated people that would then cheat together.Even though Eli and Gwen are victims of their fiances leaving them, McAvoy never makes them feel like victims. Both characters are willing to move on from their public embarrassment and continue to live their lives in a way that fulfills them... eventually. However, the one thing that they absolutely refuse to enjoy is each other's company. Their conversation was so funny, it was fully of banter and witty and really helped us to connect to the characters, especially as they started to realise that maybe they weren't each other's enemies.I LOVED Melody Giovanni from Ruthless People, but I think we all know she's a tiiiiiny bit over the top so I think that Gwen is officially jointly my favourite female character as written by J.J. McAvoy. Gwen was confident in herself, dedicated to her career and has a good relationship with her parents, she's pretty much perfect and I love it. It never feels like she's a Mary Sue or anything equally irritating, she's just Gwen and she happens to be near perfect.Eli is a bit of a dick, but it works for him tbh. You can definitely see why his character would be well paired with Gwen as she allows him to be less of a Type A and relax a little. That Thing Between Eli & Gwen is adorable and it's great to see that J.J. McAvoy is so capable of writing multiple genres and make us fall in love.Recommend to: fans of New Adult, fans of romanceRating: 4 starsMore reviews at: aishareadsbooks.blogspot.co.uk

Absolutely loved it!
The story was just beautifully written. I love the characters and their growth. It had some laugh out loud moments and some heartwrenching. I have re read this book many times and still come back to it when I need a good story.

Cute and quirky tale: SPOILER ALERT
I really love how well this author writes and wish she was as prolific as some of the other romance authors I tend to read. I enjoyed Eli and Gwen’s story, and had in fact, been eyeing it for a while but just never got round to reading it.While I enjoyed the chemistry and natural banter between Eli and Gwen, I found a few things really irksome. First off, I felt Ms McAvoy went to great pains to keep Gwen’s race under wraps like some big secret. A lot of people like me will have picked up this book because they believed it was a BWWM romance story. So, nothing irks me more than a story that skirts around race.Gwen’s dad was just a tad TOO overbearing and came off as extremely RUDE. I just couldn’t take to him at all, and maybe Gwen should have had a sterner word with him. Finally, I didn’t like how the end felt very rushed and quickly cobbled together. I feel Ms McAvoy basically used a long trail of emails between Eli and Gwen as a filler to conclude the story. That, coupled with the fact that Hanna came back baby in tow, felt to me like a very underwhelming, anti-climatic HEA, if we can even call it that. Were it not for those few things, this book for me could have easily been what I like to call a 5+ star rated read.

Excellent read
Loves this story and the main characters. It has humour, great sex and great storyline. Only reason for 4* was I did and didn’t like the ending.

What a fab different read! As my first read ...
What a fab different read!As my first read by JJ McAvoy it will not be my last... i was hooked by some of the first pages! This is the story of Eli and Gwen... who both meet when they ditched by their partners at Eli and Hannahs wedding no less! That dreaded moment when the vicar asks if amyone objects to a couple getting married... yeh thats when they both find out their other halves want other people! The story focuses on what happens next for these guys and how surprised they are when they realise they are now living next door to each other!Such a different story with alot of humour throughout. Will definitely read more by this author.

Decent, but not by a stretch that good;a shame.
While I'm a big fan of McAvoy' s writing, I've been extremely disappointed with her overall (in)ability to create an actual ending for her novels. While I enjoyed the premise, the ending is abrupt with scenarios just added --out of the blue. Secondary characters with no intention of even a follow up was randomly added to the storyline with no plausible justification of their purpose. This story half way in was just all over the place! If it's possible to do a rewrite, please do so-your characters and readers are more deserving of an ad hoc finale.Greatly disappointed and unfortunately I will not be purchasing anymore novels from Ms. McAvoy-furthermore having paid for a full novel, I'm not amused to find it ended around 80%; using 20% to promote your work is disingenuous to readers.

A very entertaining read
JJ McAvoy has done it again!! I love love love the story of Eli & Gwen.. Wishing there was more of it; I'll have to read it again. They were so entertaining; I laughed so much and my heart broke with them too. I also loved the fact that there wasn't unnecessary drama between them.
