Adapter is NOT as pictured, but works great!
I received my adapter in the mail just a little bit ago. I've used it for about 15 minutes - and it does a great job of delivering the full sound potential of whatever GBA game you're playing. In fact, it even enhances the earliest games I have for the original Gameboy. I just finished playing a round of "Revenge of the 'Gator" pinball (published in 1989) and I was surprised by the great sound effects and music that the game fed through my Apple Premium earbuds! I think you'll like the adapter and I recommend it highly, but you should know that what you receive does NOT look like the photo that accompanies the item listing here on Amazon.com. The adapter I received is a single "L"-shaped piece of plastic, with the GBA SP connector (male) in one end and a hole for a 1/8" mini-plug from your headphones in the other end. Although the housing is plastic, it seems very sturdy - and the contact surfaces are obviously of adequate quality, since the sound you can extract is very good. The unit is also a relatively small, out-of-the-way, and securely anchored addition to the GBA SP's profile. The only way you might damage the adapter is if you dropped it (mounted on your GBA SP) on a hard floor or smacked it into something while you were playing. Have fun rockin' out to your GBA SP with a set of stereo headphones! I am!

Works great; distorted sound only with headset headphones
Works great with my Gameboy Advance SP! However, if you have headphones with a built-in microphone(or a 'headset'), the sound WILL sound distorted. This is avoidable by either using different headphones, or by getting a breakout cable that removes the extra mic channel from the headphone jack. Pros: Sound is just as good as with the older gba's built-in output jack Cons: Cable is a bit tight when inserting/removing from the gba sp port.

Major pros with minor cons
If you are looking for a quick answer, then yes, you should buy this. For a longer answer, there is actually a lot to be said about this gameboy advance to headphone adapter. Pros: • Cheap • Lightweight • Feels sturdy • Easily available Cons • Form factor (kind of large/bulky) • Wire thickness • Quality control I like this adapter because it is a great replacement for a product no longer sold. If you don’t want to shell out big bucks for an authentic cable, this is a great option. It is lightweight, but has solid construction. Also for the price ($4.99 at time of purchase) you can’t beat it. The sound quality is also nice. Just using a cheap pair of earbuds I was really impressed with how nice my gameboy advance sounds now! What I don’t like about this adaptor is that it consists of two very bulky and large plastic pieces with a very thin cord between them. The cord hangs down when the gameboy is held upright, and I worry that might put stress on the wires. I feel like the manufacturer could have went down two paths. The first path was to increase the size of the cable or at least given it more insulation to strengthen it, and so that it could match the amount of plastic on the rest of the adapter. The second path would be to make the amount of plastic around the sockets and plugs thinner. I don’t think a headphone jack needs that much plastic around it. They could have slimmed the plastic coating to be thinner and less bulky, making the wire not droop as much and hang less. It seems this product is stuck between these two paths. Weak wire and extreme plastic. That being said, it is not even close to a good enough reason not to order it. It fulfills its purpose cheaply and effectively. I would like to also note that many people have experienced quality control issues, with pins being bent which stop function, or even no pins at all. I acknowledge this is a problem, but I am happy to say that I, like many others, have not had this issue. All in all, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a small adaptor to play their gameboy advances with headphones.

A Superb GBA Accessory!
I have been using these on my GBA playing excursions for a little while now to see how they work in a practical setting. Long story short: Fantastic! The audio clarity is as good as any regular headphone jack (I compared playing GBA games on my DS Lite and GBA SP with this) and there doesn't seem to be any issues with things getting loose as you inevitably move around with the system. The jack connector itself is really tight and so is the GBA end into the system. So chances are it won't come loose while you're playing under regular circumstances. Well, unless you are ready to pull them out of course. One thing to keep in mind though is that you cannot use this and charge your SP at the same time as they both use the same jack. So if you want to play with headphones exclusively or something, you'll need to keep your SP charged so you won't have to switch to the wall outlet when your battery turns red. Well, that or just wait until it's fully charged before playing again of course. But that'll be a few hours and if you're excited to finish something, well, good luck fighting the urge, ha ha!

Doesn’t work, possibly damages SP.
Received this adapter hoping to play gameboy while my daughter naps in my lap. Unfortunately, the connector is so tight in the SP that I was concerned I was going to break something. After reading some reviews that said it was tight yet functional, I carefully forced it in and fired up the SP. The first thing I noticed was the red charging light on a fully charged SP, the second was the garbled, terrible sound. It was clear that the connector wasn’t right and was possibly shorting the charge pins as the battery indicator turned green again after unplugging the adapter and power cycling the console. Save your self five bucks and possibly a fried gameboy, find a different one.

The small headphone adapter cord works well, it securely attached to the back port of the game boy advance sp and allows you to connect a standard headphone jack into the adapter. The black colour looks good with any color of system and the cord itself is low profile. Good purchase

Anyone using an average earphone might not be able to function it properly. Doesn't work for all earphones/headphones but it does for some. I initially triped with Apple earpods and it was either muffled or working only on one side etc, had loose connection, I tried other earphones too but was disappointed Later I happened to buy a Gameboy specific headphones and this adapter works excellently for it. But if I hadn't gotten this, maybe it wouldn't have worked. So do some research into what works and doesn't

Inferior product. Does not fit a standard headphone jack. You’ve been warned.
